To be cross with boy at ds's school

Ds yr 8 lost his Oystercard last week.....hunted everywhere at school but no good. He paid £10 out of his own money to replace it..tonight he comes home from school with the original one.
A boy in his class had taken it and tried to use it....boy's friend told my son . My ds confronted the boy.....who admitted it and produced it out of his bag.
Am I being unreasonable to talk to head of year tomorrow and want this boy to reimburse ds his £10?

Why not? Talk to the Head calmly about it and see what they think. They might disagree but you need to flag this boys behaviour and it needs dealing with even if you can't get him to stump up for his misdeed.

OnlyWantsOne · 08/12/2011 19:33

I would talk to HOY - probably wouldnt make a big deal but that other child shouldn't go round stealing things.

Liluri · 08/12/2011 19:34

The school definitely need to know if there is a thief in their midst.

mrsravelstein · 08/12/2011 19:36

of course the boy should reimburse it, and should be punished... can't imagine why the school would disagree? i mean, he stole it, didn't he, what else is there to say?

Mrsrobertduvall · 08/12/2011 20:19

Yes I will be calling school calmly tomorrow.
Definitely am expecting boy to be punished.

YANBU, this boy should definately be punished.

If my ds had done something like that and then suffered no consequences I would be really angry. Hopefully the school will have to let the parents know and they will punish him too.

Waltons · 08/12/2011 20:45

Yes, you must talk to the school. On my son's bus one of the older boys snatched his iPod and took it home with him when he got off the bus. There were plenty of witnesses, including sixth formers and the bus driver. The school took it very seriously indeed, he was punished with a one day exclusion for stealing and bullying, and his parents were "invited" in to discuss the matter with the Head.

Just to update...phoned hoy at 8 am, he agreed that ds will be reimbursed, got call at 11am to say father of boy is bringing money in to school on Monday.
Pretty good.

I would try and contact the parents first (calmly and not being judgemental) and probably speak to the HoY. OR ask your son to ask this boy for the £10 himself in the first instance and see where that leads.

aldiwhore · 09/12/2011 18:52

Doh.. should read the latest comments. Good outcome.

Mrsrobertduvall · 13/12/2011 15:08

woot!

Liluri · 13/12/2011 16:43

That's good.
I hope the sneak-thief has learnt his lesson, and I'm glad your own son got his dosh back Smile

valiumredhead · 13/12/2011 16:46

Good result!
