whew, that title was a bit long.
i know the staff deserve to knock off early for xmas, but shouldn't the cost of this be absorbed by the nursery, not the parents?
i feel as if they have been underhand too- i only noticed this when i checked the invoice.
i think some parents there will have had to take unpaid leave because of this early closure- and still pay childcare!
i know it sounds mean but i wouldn't mind the early closure if i wasn't paying for the whole day.
aibu?

DSs nursery is closed for a full week but we're still having to pay.

Point out their typo!!! I pissed off DS3's after school club when they in=voiced me for 3 snow days - I think i was the only parent that did pick up on it last year!

squeakytoy · 07/12/2011 21:31

I would question whether it is actually legal to do it. They are charging money for a service, and not providing that service.

I know it sounds a bit mean, but the amount of money that nurseries charge, it is a considerable amount of money to some people even for half a day.

Sirzy · 07/12/2011 21:32

If they are only open half a day they should only charge half a day.

DS nursery on that date have the christmas party from 12 -3 but because the children need to be accompanied by a parent to the party they are only charging half rates to those normally in that day.

katkit · 07/12/2011 21:32

smash- that's awful. the nursery is shut over xmas but arent charging for that part.

Well teachers still get paid on snow days so why shouldn't after school workers?

BlissfulMistletoe · 07/12/2011 21:33

is it in the policy

katkit · 07/12/2011 21:33

trois- i emailed them today suggesting they might have made a 'mistake' but have had no reply yetHmm

chrimb- but thats not relevant because parents arent paying for school.

OP posts:
katkit · 07/12/2011 21:35

hmm, i better check the policy...

It is a lot to pay but as Blissful says it maybe explained in the charging policy. At my nursery for example you get two free weeks for holidays but afaik they don't check to see if you take them.

katkit · 07/12/2011 21:37

there's no mention of it in the paperwork...

Facilitated by outside providors - the premises were closed (due to school being closed) therefore their part of the contract wasnt upheld. NMP - not paying for something I couldnt use. I would point out the same club is billing all the Y6 users, usual rates, despite a years notice for a compulsory residential school trip taking place for a week (sop thats 80 quid down the swanny) on the grounds thats not their problem.

it's all swings and roundabouts.

MY DS's nursery made it clear when payment was expected and not. If they are closing for an additional 1/2 day then you should either get a refund or not pay.

katkit · 07/12/2011 21:46

iboro- they had the same holiday policy too but they withdrew it without tellin us! i found out when i mentioned it in some promotional stuff i wrote for them and was told 'oh, we dont do that anymore'. aghhh!
