to think that people will pay £2 for a cake pop?

I'm planning to start a baking/cake business at home, and am thinking of just doing cake pops. DH says that I am barking to think that anybody would pay £2 for a bit of cake on a stick - is he just being a miserable git (always a possibility) or is he on the money on this one? I'm done my sums and I think that to make a go of cake pops I'd have to get about two quid a pop (as it were). All views appreciated ... even if you think that cake pops are boakworthy yummy mummy dross

This thread was dead but I HAD TO POST. Since 2011 a lot has change in the cake pop business, jajaja. ¿Imposible to charge 2 ponds for a CP? Check this place in the UK. They charge up to 3.50 pounds in 2014!!!

Billygoats · 25/07/2014 17:25

Ha I was reading this through thinking that everywhere charges £2 plus for a cake pop. Didn't even see the date. Shows all the non believers that the cupcake business is dying out as its still going strong 2 1/2 years later.

Xmasbaby11 · 25/07/2014 17:34

I don't see cake pops around though - no cafes I go to and I go to a lot!

LastTango · 25/07/2014 17:39

Do people REALLY go hunting for dead threads.......really?

TurboWithAKick · 25/07/2014 17:43

They were last years fad... Don't see them anywhere now

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 25/07/2014 17:52

If you google cake pops price, the first 3 sites prices range from:
1.50 to 2.50
2.20
1.00 for plain to 1.50 for decorated

So there is a big difference. I think you should research the competition in your area for prices by going on people's websites or Facebook business pages. If you are in an area that will bear £2, then go for it. If not, then pitch at the price of your competition.

I may pay £2 but only if they of a high standard.

AAAAArrrgggh didn't notice it was a zombie thread! Shame on me.

raspberryriot · 25/07/2014 18:07

£2 - errrr no way! I have 4DC so that would be £8 to buy them one each. I've just made a big cake which must have cost me about 70p. It will feed 12.

Jelliebabe2 · 25/07/2014 20:00

No way! I'd want a whole big slice of cake for £2 not just a piddly Bite!

Whyjustwhyagain · 25/07/2014 20:12

Friend of DDs sells them at their secondary school for 25p each. So while she's not making any profit, she enjoys making them and they are rather nice.

maddy68 · 25/07/2014 20:48

£2 is too much generally. But depends where you are selling them. If it's somewhere megapish then maybe. But I have seen them locally for £0.60

TiggyD · 25/07/2014 20:55

Pop means on a stick?

50 is the most I would pay for a very small cake. I'd rather have a massive doughnut with jam inside and icing.

ThrowAChickenInTheAir · 25/07/2014 20:59

I would pay £2 for a full sized cake. Maybe forget the stick?

PushPineapple · 25/07/2014 21:02

If I baulk at paying £2 for a cupcake, there's no way I'd cough up more than a quid for a cake pop.

IonaMumsnet · 25/07/2014 21:23

Hi folks,

This is a VERY old thread that has been resurrected. We were probably using old money back then. We're going to delete it shortly as people are getting a bit confused, understandably.

icanmakeyouicecream · 25/07/2014 21:25

Just no

icanmakeyouicecream · 25/07/2014 21:26

Sorry Iona Grin

DirtyDancing · 25/07/2014 21:56

Where / how are you selling them ? Will you post them out to people? On Etdy I got some quotes for some cookies for my Son's christening and they varied from £1.25-2.00 each

DirtyDancing · 25/07/2014 21:58

Argh old thread!

HermioneWeasley · 25/07/2014 22:02

Ha! I remembered this thread from the first time around. And I still think £2 for a bit of cake on a stick is excessive.

Greyhound · 25/07/2014 22:14

£2 for a cake pop? No.

Mind you, I am shocked at the fact that I paid £1.80 for a small ice cream from a van today.

I don't really get cake pops. I'd rather have a slice of cake.

CheeryName · 25/07/2014 22:41

In my day a cake pop were ten bob, lovely they was after a day down t'pit :)
