To think grants for double glazing should be available to all.

If energy efficiency is the goal.
I am sat here freezing with the heating on full freezing.
Are in a conservation area with wooden sash and case windows.
We had them draught proofed and refurbished but cant afford to replace 14 windows.
We are surrounded by others in the same position so the heat leaking out must be amazing.

Oooh yes please!

I have a mortgaged house in a fairly council housed area and my council tax went up to pay for most of my neighbours to have double glazing and new roofs and doors on their council homes.

I can't afford them myself!

YANBU.

I also think central heating grants should be available to ALL. Not just those with children / benefits / old etc.

I have NO central heating. On the plus, I have MANY socks.

YANBU. We own but are being offered cavity wall insulation and loft insulation ALL THE TIME. We do not have cavity walls Hmm and the loft was done less than 5 years ago. HOWEVER, we have had the back part of the house double glazed and are saving (amongst other things!) to have the front done. We also paid for central heating to be put in.

I would be happy to pay for it, but it would be really nice if we could do it on a low-interest loan maybe. At this rate, our house is going to be so mould-ridden that the windows will fall out anyway.

whackamole · 07/12/2011 11:11

To clarify, we paid for the double glazing ourselves.

Could I also replace the shite double glazing that the previous owners had put in? Single glazing would even be better!!
If so, I'm in Grin

Yanbu. With dwindling natural resources we ought to for environmental reasons as well.

Groovee · 07/12/2011 12:49

We could only afford to change 2 of our 7 windows at a cost of £1600 for good quality double glazing instead of the shite we bought this house and it came with. We've only just done the front door at a cost of £450 and noticing the difference.
