This rumbles on and on, so far have done the following;

asked nicely
got cross
written letters
telephoned
offered to get them a cat (they don't want one)
kept cat indoors, except for 15 mins in morning

but they are STILL feeding mine who is greedy and if I'm not on the ball during his 15 min morning run will be let into their house and not let out until I telephone to ask them to let him out.

Apparently, they used to keep a cat and for sentimental reasons they keep his bowls and 'put a little food down' which my cat nibbles on YET they have done everything they reasonably can NOT to feed my cat

Have read the thread for the first time today and am in awe at how you have put up with this for so long OP! So pleased you will be moving away from these morons and the stress they cause you.

I know you said your cat gets stressed from being kept in, mine suffered from that too when they temporarily had to be kept as house cats in a home they were used to having outdoor access in. But when I moved house, and they were in a setting where they hadn't experienced the outdoors, they adapted to being house cats remarkably well. With cat proofing and custom built runs house cats can still experience the outdoors, without the risk of theft, cars, poisons, getting locked in etc. I'd really recommend you try to keep your boy indoors only when you move house, especially with him being pedigree. I had been following this from the start but didn't realise it was still going on. Hats off to you for putting up with it for so long, i'd have committed an arrestable offence by now in your shoes.

Once had a neighbour try to steal 2 of my cats, first one kept randomly going missing. He was deaf and didn't go much further than the back garden, He did always come back though. The second one was indoor only as was pedigree Ragdoll and was only 5 months old at the time, he escaped one day had been out literally 5 minutes. Another neighbour (first neighbours friend) came to tell me that crazy neighbour had my cat (took him off the path behind my house) and despite her son telling her it was our cat ( her son had been over to play with my own DS) was planning on not giving him back.
She later admitted that the times when first cat went missing he was in her house as he was lost! she only lived 4 doors down and back gardens were 40ft apart,I don't know how she ever thought I wouldn't find out where they were.

Also a friend of my mums found a six month old kitten in her garden, took it in had her spayed and vaccinated within days and kept her. Didn't ever try to find an owner, just claimed it as hers. Owner did eventually track cat down to her and confronted her, the kitten had escaped the house, caused months of worry to her owner, mums friend denied stealing the cat but wouldn't give it back. Till this day still doesn't think she did anything wrong and cant stand the fact she has been branded a cat thief!!

The thing is with people like this don't think they are doing anything wrong and openly admit what they are doing/have done. They genuinely don't care the hurt and worry they cause their owners!

God luck with the house move, I would just go quietly and leave them to wonder where you or rather your cat has gone.

I still see my old cat in the garden after neighbours with an unrestricted cat flap "won" him. Two years ago they thought he was a three year old stray but now he looks every inch his 12-14 years (rescue cat) .

Finally got a new cat a couple if months ago and am in love. But I really hope the couple across the way don't decide it's time then got a new cat.

When you move I'd start sending a series of postcards from all over the world from the cat to your new neighbours, detailing the wonderful adventures he is having. I can help with a few from Australia

At times like these you have to ask yourself what would JD do? Not Jon Dorian from Scrubs but Jeffrey Dahmer. On a more serious note, if your cat is tagged can you not just take the matter to court?? Get an electronic reading device that records how long the cat is being held at their property against your wishes and you should have them bang to rights. All the best.
