to think it's down right irresponsable to sit your toddler on the bonnet of your car?

Driving home earlier and there's a car parked on the busy road right opposite the entrance to my road. (it's a dead end so only entrance and exit.)

There was a toddler (beautiful looking lad Smile) sat on the bonnet waving at everyone passing whilst his parents stood about 2 meters away on the pavement.

He wasn't harming anyone but I couldn't help being worried if he fell or someone coming over the hump bridge didn't see the car there could have been a severe or worse still fatal accident. Sad

I'll admit to thouroughly hoiking my judgy pants. WIBU?

Er,it's one of those things!

ViviPrudolf · 06/12/2011 17:11

Mr 'Pru would FREAK OUT if I sat anything on the bonnet of the 'Prumobile, small children included.

JjingleBeanplusPudalltheway · 06/12/2011 17:15

They shouldn't be far away from him no, but our dcs used to constantly climb all over 'melvyn' our tank of an old estate car, dp even let dd stand on the roof [fhmmm]

They aren't allowed now I have a 'new' (to us) car.

So while yanbu to be a bit shocked they'd left him there, its not really the worst thing.

WorraLiberty · 06/12/2011 17:16

Blimey I was going to say YANBU because I thought they were driving round with the kid on the bonnet!

Errrr YABU really, I'm not fussed

HappyCamel · 06/12/2011 17:56

YANBU because the car wasn't parked off the road. If someone hits it he'll go flying.

No the car wasn't parked off the road - that wouldn't have got my attention at all. Kids clamber on things, cars included and I get that.

But this car was parked on double yellows, right opposite a road with cars trying to go in and out whilst navigating around it as well as cars trying to go along the busy road having to navigate the car which was only visable as you came over the humped bridge. The car was parked in a position causing a danger to other drivers with a toddler on the bonnet - to me that increases the risk of serious injury.

Would it have been ok if he was a little ugger?

Whizkidwithacrazystreak · 06/12/2011 18:36

Serious injuries can happen at any time. Try not to concern yourself about this and ensure you dont rest small children, animals or relatives on your bonnet :)

JjingleBeanplusPudalltheway · 06/12/2011 18:45

Now knowing the location, they're a bit dim. Our hellians dcs used to clamber all over on a driveway, and private carpark --not posh, homeless lived in bnb for 6mnths--

youarekidding · 06/12/2011 18:46

No neuro I just mentioned it because firstly he caught my eye because of where he was sat and then because he really was the most beautiful little lad - big blue eyes and really blonde curls with a huge cheeky grin as he waved at me.

Whix - I get what you mean but I had to try and negotiate around this car whilst watching what the lad was doing and the on coming traffic just to turn into my road. My own DS kneels on the bonnet to clean my car but not on a road where a car shouldn't even be parked anyway.

I know it shouldn't figure in my day. Grin

We often sat on the car when we were children, but the car was parked in the drive, so very little chance of another vehicle hitting it. I guess it would depend on the child and the location.

FreudianSlipper · 06/12/2011 23:22

why didn't you say something if you so worried about his safety

no far better to save it for a mn moan on the terrible parenting of others

youarekidding · 07/12/2011 18:21

fruedian you are right. I maybe should have said something but tbh at the time I was just a bit Shock . It was after when I thought about the position of the car I felt it was dangerous - or more dangerous than I first thought!!
