To be pretty blooming miffed by this?

I was bored last night and in my boredom, Googled myself (don't judge me for that lol) but what I actually found has really p*ssed me off!

Basically, there's nothing about me anywhere but on 192.com, they have my full name, name of DH, address, phone number, my age plus the value of my house how long I've lived there, and even an aerial picture of my house.

Am I late to the party on this - does everyone know this? I know a lot of this is publically available info from the electoral register but why put it all together on one big stalker-happy page?

I mean, all someone needs is your name and just the town you live in and they know all about you. Surely people could see if I was a woman living alone? See the names of my children?

I've written to them asking for it to be removed (they do that if you ask, and print off a form to send to them) and have now gone ex-directory but I'm still pretty shocked.

AIBU or is this par for the course these days?

I'm not there. Pretty common surname, but apparently there are only two people in the town with the same initial, neither of them me. Hmmm. Tried looking up my Dad, whose surname is fairly unusual, and find he has been sharing his home with a family of strangers. How did I not notice that? The phone number is correct, I'll give them that much.

keSnowBi · 06/12/2011 15:04

I'm myself and a deacon in New Zealand apparently.

God bless you all.

HappyHippyChick · 06/12/2011 15:12

I have yoga pages and also have published 5 books! Go me...

lizzieloubee1 · 06/12/2011 15:44

I share a name with a Noble prize-winning scientist. You have to go through billions of results for her before you find me!

whatdoiknowanyway · 06/12/2011 15:48

I'm a disability campaigner apparently

TandB · 06/12/2011 15:58

I'm a champion bridge player apparently.

I also have fairly detailed info on 192 but I am safe from stalkers as the aerial photo is of the wrong house!

Acanthus · 06/12/2011 16:29

Have you paid to see the info about you on 192.com? If I google myself I don't come up, but if I search on 192.com with my postcode there are electoral roll entries from 2003 (maybe this is when they introduced the tick box?) which are "premium entries".

AnnieLobeseder · 06/12/2011 16:34

Aaargh! I'm on there, though I can't see any details unless I sign up. I appear to be under 2 addresses but can't see what they are without paying. What's pissing me off though is that on the second one they've got me down as age group 42-46!! Grrrrrrrrrrrr! I may be close but I'm not there yet!! Grin

mrsravelstein · 06/12/2011 16:38

i'm me on FB, and that's it.

however my details ARE on 192 despite the fact that i'm ex directory and ticked the box on the electoral register, which might explain why i get so many unwanted bloody marketing calls

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 06/12/2011 16:42

I'm a successful singer /songwriter, an academic and an artist. I never knew I was such an accomplished individual.

ledkr · 06/12/2011 16:52

I just did it woo. Despite being ex directory i am also on 192 but im age bracket 27-32 I wish and i apparently still live with my ex and current husband along with our respective children.Very cosy and very modern Grin

I could also be a mathematician, how very marvelous.

ledkr · 06/12/2011 16:53

Haha ex dh is in the age bracket 45-57 hahaha

elliejjtiny · 06/12/2011 16:55

With the living with strangers thing some of them will be the previous occupiers of the house. I searched dh and found him with MIL, FIL, BIL and a load of strangers in 2002. I thought what? but then I searched me and found me, dh and the previous 2 sets of tenants from our house in 2005.

ledkr · 06/12/2011 16:56

Are you lot buying credits just to look further??

Pendeen · 06/12/2011 17:01

How depressing.

Only some ancestors for first and surname (we are not a very inventive family for naming girls) but surname alone produces a rash of websites for holiday cottages and nasty spec builder-type houses.

:(

CokeFan · 06/12/2011 17:11

I get my Facebook and twitter pages if I google. My name's fairly unusual (first and surname) but not unheard of. There's an out of date entry on 192.com which is me and a few entries that aren't.

I'm not famous though. Sigh.

There are, apparently, 2 people in the US with my name. One in Colorado and one in Oregon.
