I now class AIBU as a hobby Blush

LCarbury · 05/12/2011 21:36

I am going to paint watercolours when I am an old lady.

LCarbury · 05/12/2011 21:38

Sorry, to answer your question - how do you get a hobby? Do you genuinely have free time? If so, why not visit a craft fair or look at your local evening classes and see if you fancy any, then, if you do, you can simply keep it up.

Kayano · 05/12/2011 21:38

Evening classes are good Grin

BlissfulMistletoe · 05/12/2011 21:46

the problem with evening classes is that i could only go every 3 weeks due to DH work patterns and finding child.

i also work 3 days a week

First of all you need to think about what uou actually like doing - if your not crafty and have no patience then rule this out. Do you like music/singing ? if so, local choir sort of thing ?, do you like exercise ? join the Gym/local running group/walking group etc etc.
Give us an idea of what you like/hate and see what we can come up with !

iceandsliceplease · 05/12/2011 22:39

What Sanesometimes1 said. Is there anything you look at that other people have made and think 'ooh, I'd love one of those?' Or things that you enjoy, but never really do?

I taught myself to crochet from a book, just so I could one day make a skirt I saw 17 years ago, which I loved but could not afford then Xmas Sad. And I'm seriously considering going to a Rock Choir taster session next week. Partly because I love singing, but have no confidence in it, and partly because I need to leave the house to do something other than the school run.

I am massively cringing about 'rock choir' though.

Ripeberry · 05/12/2011 22:42

I didn't have a hobby for ages, then suddenly got inspiration to do 'arty' photography and fan fiction stories. Keeps me busy. Did the hands on hobbies but used to get bored.
Now prefer to use my imagination Smile

Sanesometimes1 · 05/12/2011 22:43

Rock choir sounds fab - would love to do that myself !

BlissfulMistletoe · 05/12/2011 22:48

i like computers, would love to do a computer course on website design or building computers, fixing laptops ect........not so much to gain a career but just to do. (not like i got the brains for it lol)

i like doing courses, to expand my own learning....but no sure if this is classed as a hobby doubt i would get bored. My main problem is that i can not focus on something for long periods of time

i guess i will just have to exporer whats out there

I would join something that other people do with you - I find it much harder to keep things up by myself.

Eg - I tried to like cross stitch and knitting but have just ended up with about 15 projects that I've started over the years and given up on within the first few days of starting.

Amateur dramatics and dance classes however, I have been attending for 24 years and not given up yet.

LidlDonkey · 05/12/2011 23:02

I'd never really had a hobby until recently, when I decided I wanted to learn to crochet (because I wanted a lovely crocheted blanket and didn't want to pay a lot for it). And now I can't stop doing it. I think hobbies are a bit like love, they just creep up on you when you're least expecting it. Have probably had too many Wine tonight Smile
