The advert was for Aquila magazine. It describes it as being for 'bright children of 8-12'

For one thing, I thought 'bright child' was what teachers said as a sop before they told you all the things your DC were failing to keep up with in class ("of course, she's very bright, but . . .")

For seconds, what on earth parent thinks they have a dim child

And for thirds, given the difference between an 8 y/o and a 12 y/o, presumably a dense 12 y/o would be reading / comprehending ahead of this mythical bright 8 y/o anyway

it is a selling tactic, parents will buy it as they think by doing that it means their child will be thought clever

The thing is, I'd quite like to find a new mag for dd that isn't 90% product placement and the rest adverts (she had NG Kids for a while but went off it). Quite liked the idea of a mag with some games, puzzles etc. But she doesn't want something bloody 'educational', its meant to be for fun!
