To ask for your thoughts on hand-crafted goods, especially knitted stuff?

I would love to set up my own business selling hand-knitted stuff. But it is expensive and time-consuming so would have to make it quite expensive to make it pay at all. I live in the back of beyond, nowhere near London where the money is supposed to be. What are your thoughts, please? Rubbish idea, brilliant idea, what ever you think!

Zombie thread... OP either has an established business by now or has given up on the idea totally!

There are ways to make money from knitting, but selling knitted items is not one of them.

Can you design patterns?
Can you do technical editing for knitting patterns?
Can you become a sample knitter for a designer or a magazine?
Can you teach classes?

Can you have a job alongside the knitted stuff? I make things (not knitting but textile based), and have a part-time job to make sure the bills etc are paid. I absolutely love making stuff, and would love to make a proper living from it, maybe one day.
There is no reason why you can't make money if you target the right audience, but I would suggest some paid work to tide you over.

It's not physically possible to make money I'm afraid. Even if you use cheap crappy acrylic (which I refuse to do) the hours involved make things far too expensive. Look on etsy and you'll see many items for sale barely cover the cost of yarn, let alone time involved.

Sewing and more minimal embroidery, perhaps. Paper crafts of certain kinds, definitely. Knitting and crochet with yarn? Nope!

Sorry... zombie thread

Oh whoops! I wonder if the OP made a go of it or not?
