To dig up old threads?

So sometimes I stumble across really old threads well like 2004, 2007 etc and always wonder what the outcome of them was. Eg a thread where the OP and her DP were considering moving from London to the North-West with their baby, this was about 8 years ago. It does make you wonder what decisions people made in the end. It would be interesting to dig up some old AIBU dilemmas too. Whos up for a bit of mn archeology?

it is pointless, unless the OP comes back and says what they actually did

ZacharyQuack · 04/12/2011 11:05

Don't do it - it's really irritating to read through a thread and then realise that it's ancient. Also, the chances of the original OP being around now to provide an update are fairly slim.

If you're wondering the outcome of some old threads are, why not start a thread about them and link to the old threads?

MenopausalHaze · 04/12/2011 11:06

A couple were considering moving from one place to another? It's hardly the stuff of however many years of excruciating suspense is it?

These threads are in the deep dark recesses of AIBU for a reason. Leave them there.

ThatsNotMyBabyBelly · 04/12/2011 11:07

But how do you find them? I always wonder this when old threads come up.

usualsuspect · 04/12/2011 11:10

Its irritating when you post on them ,and find out you have posted years before though.

but interesting to see if your views have changed over the years Grin

AurraSing · 04/12/2011 11:17

I've disagreed with myself lots of times on resurrected threads.

I wish mumsnet would lock old threads to stop them reappearing - I've wasted far too much time reading threads from four years ago. More useful than a "like" button

Ihavewelliesbutitssunny · 04/12/2011 11:20

Zachary do you not think that there are quite a lot of posters that have been here for a long time and therefore would still be around? Good idea though about making a thread and then linking to old threads.

Menopausal, ok I agree that one doesn't sound particularly interesting, to be fair it was an area that I used to live in so I suspose thats why it interested me.

Thatsnot theres about 1400 pages of AIBU threads you can search through them. Its quite interesting going back to the early days of AIBU, 2007 I think.

Please don't resurrect zombie threads

By all means link via new thread

tallulah · 04/12/2011 13:53

It's so frustrating to realise that a thread is 5 years old and I wonder often why people keep reopening them.

It's also quite a shock when you recognise one of your own old posts back in Active Convos, especially if you are a serial name-changer..

Trills · 04/12/2011 13:57

YABU - old threads resurrected are ANNOYING.

I can see why you'd want to though, especially since Threads I'm On can now show you threads by recency of last post rather than by when you last posted on them.

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 04/12/2011 14:04

Is recency even a word?

Trills · 04/12/2011 14:09

Would you prefer recent-ness? :o

Recency: the quality or state of being recent

Trills · 04/12/2011 14:10

In the past if you resurrected an old thread there was very little chance that the OP in question would see it anyway.

Now, if you resurrected an old thread that I had been on, it would be pushed up to the top of my Threads I'm On.

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 04/12/2011 14:17

We could make something up: I like recentitude.

Pagwatch · 04/12/2011 14:20

Recenticity

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 04/12/2011 14:28

I like it, Pag.

EricNorthmansMistress · 04/12/2011 14:29

Please don't.

Trills · 04/12/2011 14:51

Recentitcity is nice.

Trills · 04/12/2011 14:51

I apologise wholeheartedly for using a real word when made-up ones are much nicer :)
