I heard brilliant things and the writings nice and all but I just felt a bit let down. Or am I a twat who needs to be more cultured?

Makes me want to turn to hard drugs an'all.

I, meanwhile, am reading for the nth time (my copy is falling apart and I know it off by heart in places) the L shaped room trilogy. (because we all have a Toby in our lives somewhere, and once you get past the institutional racism of the time and homophobia, fuck me it's good)

Oh bucharest, I loved that trilogy! Read as a teenager and had forgotten about it until this marvellous thread.

Read it again, there are the most wonderful wonderful passages that make me howl. It's like she's talking about me.....
