the children push the books backwards in the shelves, so they are not all neatly lined up towards the front of the shelf.

Grrr....

My God are you me?!

It drives me insane

YANBU at all!

DebbieDoesSanta · 30/11/2011 19:05

they should be at the back of the shelf

Thats what shelves are supposed to be used for

Push books to back

If you want books at front of shelveage, buy smaller shelves Grin

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 30/11/2011 19:06

Yabu. That's insignificant.

What I really really HATE is when people do a little teaser with three dots ...

... in thread titles.

cheesesarnie · 30/11/2011 19:08

i hate the book thing-they need to be level when you look at them.

oh and bibbity...

Oakmaiden · 30/11/2011 19:08

No Debbie!!! You see, if they are at the back of the shelf they don't run in a smooth line, as they are all different sizes. If they are all put towards the front (not completely at the foint - about one inch in from the front) they look much nicer.

cheesesarnie · 30/11/2011 19:08

...Grin

Oakmaiden · 30/11/2011 19:09

It wasn't supposed to be a teaser - it was just that if I put the whole thing in there it would have been too long. So I cut it at an appropriate point, and continued within the post itself.

No, on Mumsnet you can have really really really long thread titles.

Or you could have had

to really hate it when the children push the books backwards in the shelves?

Adults do this in my library too... I've even caught staff doing it! Whenever I get a moment I reach my hand round the back and push them all up to the front again...

DebbieDoesSanta · 30/11/2011 19:36

oh ok oakmaiden are the books in question horiztonal or vertical?

horizontal books should be aligned but vertical books should be pushed back and arranged in height order .

It's not hard

Oakmaiden · 30/11/2011 19:37

Ok - philosophical question - if something REALLY bugs someone - can it truly be described as insignificant? I accept that it might be insignificant to some people but just because it is unimportant to you, does that automatically make it unimportant altogether?

OP posts:
Oakmaiden · 30/11/2011 19:42

Debbie - that would work, and they are arranged in height order where possible - but some are irregular shapes, which means that just because they are tallest doesn't mean they are widest. Which is why the front of shelf line up is absolutely essential.

Of course, it is not always possible to arrange in height order anyway, as books on certain topics need to be placed together.

Fiction is easier - as I just alphabetise, and any bigger or hardback books go on a different shelf.

Do you think I might have "book issues"...?

OP posts:
bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 30/11/2011 19:43

If it really really bugs you then you need to ask your children not to do it. Make it a house rule.

carabos · 30/11/2011 19:46

I have book issues too. Pushing them to the back of the shelf is not on. I could start a very long list of all the other book issues, but life's too short. I've had treatment, but I'm not sure I want to get better. I only stopped with worst compulsions when I found myself involving DS2 as a "game" when he was a toddler Blush.

InsouciantSashayalaPanAm · 30/11/2011 19:46

I bet your CDs/DVDs are all alphabetical too you weirdo

Oakmaiden · 30/11/2011 19:48

CDs - yes they are. Although sorted into genres first, and then alphabetical.

Not the DVDs though - oddly. Maybe I just don't care enough about DVDs?

OP posts:
southeastastra · 30/11/2011 19:51

my dp stores his cds by year, that's frustrating! but books should be pushed back, they look so nice all jiggly

Oakmaiden · 30/11/2011 19:52

Gosh -that sounds quite interesting, carabos! I don't really find my "book issues" a problem, so long as people put them away properly when they have finished with them. And don't push them in too far on the shelves.

My husband did think it a bit weird when I got up in the middle of the night 2 days after we moved in in order to put the books in alphabetical order (I couldn't sleep 'til I had done it).

OP posts:
DebbieDoesSanta · 30/11/2011 20:12

oakmaiden I perhaps have this too ...I hide my irregular books in the cupboard

But cd's must be alphabetical then left overs 'filmsoundtracks , dancemusic' get arranged by how much you enjoy them .

i.e Resivour Dogs soundtrack comes before footloose soundtrack because I like it better

carabos · 30/11/2011 20:25

oakmaiden I never thought any of it was unusual until I found my self in a CBT group with a very varied range of people who all had interesting problems . None of it seemed relevant until near the end of the course when we all discovered what we really had in common... Blush
