To complain about the postman?

Moulesfrites · 30/11/2011 17:33

I was out today but the cleaners were at home. The postman rang the front doorbell as he had a parcel, but the front door was locked and the cleaners didnt have a key. They told him to come round to he back door and they would get the parcel off him, but he said he didn't have time and pushed one of those slips through the door to collect from the sorting office in in two days time. Aibu to think this is out of order?

YABU.

JingleAllTheSoddingWay · 30/11/2011 17:39

YANBU

It probably took him just as much time to write out the card and post it through the door as it would to walk round the back and hand the parcel over.

LineRunnerSolsticeLover · 30/11/2011 17:39

Ah, the old Trademan's Entrance threads are back in time for Christmas.

Moulesfrites · 30/11/2011 17:43

Lo, it's not a tradesmans' entrance! Because of the layout of the house/ street, I only use the front door if I am walking somewhere, the postman was on foot so goes to the front door. The cleaners, and me most of the time, use the back door as it is next to the drive.

Why couldn't the clean go out and meet him ? My postman is a gem, never have any problems.

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 30/11/2011 17:50

Our regular posties just bring the cards and not the parcels. Our sorting office hasn't even attempted to deliver parcels for a good ten years or so now. Sometimes a van will come round with parcels, but not every day, and the vast majority of them are basically "pick up only". I thought everywhere was like this. It would be less annoying if the bloody sorting office was actually OPEN later than 12.30 during the week though. And had a car park closer than 3/4 of a mile and two main roads away Confused

LineRunnerSolsticeLover · 30/11/2011 17:51

cwtch has a fair point.

You can have it redelivered if you prefer.

ohnoudidnt · 30/11/2011 17:52

YABU Can you imagine how much extra time would be put on his shift/day if he did this at every house he delivered 2 ?

KittyFane · 30/11/2011 17:53

Couldn't they open the front room window like I do when I can't find my key am I a bit common doing this?!

bemybebe · 30/11/2011 17:53

Haha, ours just pushes the card through the letterbox "Sorry, blah-blah-blah..." And no, I was not away, he just did not want to ring the bell OR more likely did not have the parcel with him!!
YANBU

LineRunnerSolsticeLover · 30/11/2011 17:53

You can ring up and have it redelivered. And you might put a massive sign on your front door saying 'I am IN waiting for my parcel. Ring bell.' Sometimes I even leave the front door open and lurk on the doorstep. The parcel man usually delivers early - about 7.30am. He is called Pete.

KittyFane · 30/11/2011 17:55

:o @ the clean !!

pombear Shock

CamperFan · 30/11/2011 19:54

You keep your cleaners locked in? Shock

squeakytoy · 30/11/2011 20:03

How big is the house that one of the cleaners couldnt just go out of the back door and walk to the front?? Shock

minimisschief · 30/11/2011 21:52

my postman stopped me in the street not long ago to give me a package. was great

crazycarol · 30/11/2011 22:36

Pombear, do you live in my street? That is exactly what happens here. One time I was coming downstairs and saw the postman put a card through the letterbox. I immediately grabbed it and opened the front door and asked the postman for my package. He said he didn't have it with him as he couldn't carry everything, something to do with health and safety. Shock

NICEyNice · 30/11/2011 22:46

Our postie keeps on 'helpfully' leaving parcels with neighbours (who we can't stand and get very pissy about taking our post) or signs on our behalf for registered deliveries. Oh and there was the time they THREW a parcel over the back fence (It has a great big padlock on the gate and 6' height fences. We had no idea it was there. No card, no nothing. We complained it hadn't been delivered. Took us a week to actually realise it had been delivered...

purplepidjin · 30/11/2011 22:53

YABU for having multiple cleaners...

HandMini · 30/11/2011 22:53

How many cleaners do you have?

Only with this information can I judge whether or not you are BU.

hormonalmum · 30/11/2011 23:00

My postman is a gem. Few years ago, I was desperate for a parcel (xmas or bday present, cant remember which) and postie saw my mum and gave her the parcel so I would not have to go to the sorting office. Obviously rural area so knew we were related!
Now I tell him to leave them in X place. He does this and will drop a note to let me know. He also signs for any registered mail, although this is probably not allowed. I will miss him when he moves on next year.
So yanbu.

Moulesfrites · 01/12/2011 09:41

Lol at multiple cleaners - they are a husband and wife family firm - i realise this thread makes me sound much grander than I actually am Blush!

I suppose they could have opened the window or gone round to meet him at the front door but they just didn't think of this at the time as they were in the middle of cleaning the house. They aren't locked in, they just have a key to the back door and not the front. And if it is a question of time, surely it would have taken just as much time for the cleaners to go to the front as for him to come to the back??

Am shocked at the fact that in some places the parcels aren't delivered at all - the stupid sorting office open hours are really annoying. I always imagineed being a postie would be quite a pleasant little job but it sounds as if they are under pressure somewhat? Hmm.

Good luck trying to phone and speak to a person!

TurkeyBurgerThing · 01/12/2011 09:47

I caught our postman pissing in our driveway once. I was rather unimpressed! I'd say YANBU and you should complain...simply for the karma. Postman Karma.

slavetofilofax · 01/12/2011 09:50

YANBU

The postman was being a lazy arse. I used to like postmen, but they seem to do the bare minimum nowadays. The post office should be asking it's customers what they think about the service they recive so that postmen are held accountable for their lazyness, instead of being left to get on with it secure in the knowledge that there is no one watching them and they can get away with what they like.

PastGrace · 01/12/2011 09:54

Our postman fills in the "signed for" things himself if we are out. Pops the parcel through the letter box and then signs the little delivery thing that the recipient is supposed to sign and writes in brackets afterwards "the postman". Not sure that's really the point, but not complaining!

In Paris the postman claimed the DVD my sister had sent me was too big for my letter box (so I had to fish out my passport and go and queue up to get it) but the Advent Calendar I had been sent was folded in half and rammed in this space supposedly too small for a DVD Hmm
