AIBU to even contemplate this?

The Pensions march and rally in London. I'd like to go along in support. My family are/have all worked in the Public Sector, but are unable to attend (location/disability/emergency cover) so I'd like to go along to represent them IYSWIM.

The problem? Negotiating the hellishly busy and completely disabled-unfriendly Clapham Junction station with autistic and train-obsessed DS(4) and pushchair-refusing DD(18 months). I'm also disabled (Lupus) and not entirely sure how I'm going to wrestle two recalcitrant children and a pushchair up and down several flights of stairs.

So MN jury, is it madness to even attempt this? Or do I settle for attending my local rally in Croydon?

I think YANBU to contemplate it but YABU to do it with two small children. Hang a banner from your front window in support and watch it on tv.

TroublesomeEx · 30/11/2011 08:40

In your position I wouldn't.

Why are you considering this rather than the local rally?

ouryve · 30/11/2011 08:44

I can understand you wanting to do it. I think it will be hell for your kids, though, if you can't do it without taking them with you. It also might be dangerous for them if hangers on looking for a fight with the police decide to join in.

Stick with the local rally. You're making your voice heard just as loudly without putting you or your children through undue stress.

Croydon it is then :)

I thought Clapham Junction had lifts now?

bigkidsdidit · 30/11/2011 10:19

yes it does, if you go in the back way :)

squeakytoy · 30/11/2011 10:23

Clapham has had a massive refurbishment this year, so it may not be the problem that you thought it might be.

squeakytoy · 30/11/2011 10:24

Although having said that, the rally doesnt sound like the sort of thing to do with two small children either.

AntiqueAnteater · 30/11/2011 10:26

what are the children's views on the strike?

TheRealMrsHannigan · 30/11/2011 10:33

I think YABU to contemplate it with kids in tow. A rally, particularly one with emotions running so high, is no place for children.

Grumpla · 30/11/2011 10:34

That sounds like my idea of hell! Head to your local march or just take a flask of tea and biscuits to your nearest picket line instead!
