my children are alot younger than 18 and am struggling to advise a friend who has an 18 ds who has got into debt with wonga and mobile phone and who thinks by ignoring them they will go away!!! she has experienced debt with ex husband and is worried that as her ds is registered at her address she will be black listed when has only just got a good credit rating, he is also dabbling in weed and using money for that. should she pay his debt off and then ask him to leave? (confused)

Well I would advise she gets on to the moneysavingexpert boards because they specialise in this sort of stuff. She should help him find ways to pay back the debt but shouldn't pay it for him, an 18 he needs to learn the value of money.

ds goes to college 3 days a week and works two days a week, seemed to be on the straight an narrow for a while but then has gone back down the line of weed being influenced by another person but now is adament that he will deal with it but two red letters from wonga in the space of 2 weeks - ostrich syndrome also his mobile phone is two months in debt am i right in thinking that even though "3" have suspended his account he has a 18 month contract with them so they will still charge him monthly even though he cant use his phone?

My friend got into a lot of debt when she was 19, her parents paid it off but took control of her wages (they went with her every week to pick it up) and gave her a 10% of her earnings allowance until it was repaid, she only needed petrol money as food etc was provided at home, she paid it all back in no time!
