Same Christmas toys for twins??

Mightimama · 29/11/2011 12:11

DP has twin 16mo nephews, he thinks we should be buying them exactly the same Christmas presents for both of them. I disagree, I think spend the same on both of them but with different toys. Plus the fact that most of the toys I have tried to reserve, the shops only have 1 in stock.

Any opinions on buying for twins???

Different imo.

Pascha · 29/11/2011 12:15

Different so they get twice the playing fun. You could get two things from the same range like Happyland or Playmobil which could be played with together. Would that work for your DP?

EdithWeston · 29/11/2011 12:18

Different, but comparable. So maybe two Lego kits of same size but different contents. With little ones, I would also recommend a a similar sized parcel, even if the items are completely different.

ceebie · 29/11/2011 12:20

Agree with different things from the same range

ElphabaisWicked · 29/11/2011 12:20

Different.

Dd and ds both want some of the same range of toys eg Pokemon, Phineas & Ferb lego so we will be getting them different versions that can be used together.

Its a total waste to have two identical toys in the house. Of course it is different for more personal things such as music players.

NormanTheForeman · 29/11/2011 12:22

Yes, different things but from same range and same sort of price would be best. There isn't any point in having two identical toys unless it's something very, very specific they both really want (which I think is unlikely at this age).

Jojay · 29/11/2011 12:24

Different.

ElphabaisWicked · 29/11/2011 12:24

Even with their Pokemon ds games one of them had Pokemon black and the other white. Apparently this means they can trade Pokemon and find different ones or something like that.

MunchingNoPickles · 29/11/2011 12:25

Different from same range so drums and trumpet :)

Firawla · 29/11/2011 12:26

different but similar/equal toys would be better as they can share then they have twice the fun but if they are similarish then it avoids the thing of both of them think one item is so much better and just argue over that.
sometimes it is nice to have 2 of popular small items eg if theres a car or bus or something they both love but 2 of everything would be crazy or 2 of big items just a waste of space! so depends what it is
im a twin and when were little we used to get different and just share everything, but what im saying about having 2 the same of some smaller items is based on my boys who are not twins but close in age cos they sometimes fight over toys, and i know some of my friends find the same with their boys also not twins but close together, so maybe twins share better?!

tigermoll · 29/11/2011 12:27

(straps on helmet for flaming Smile)

At 16 months old, the gift is more about what the parents want, rather than the kids themselves. The twins probably don't really care if they have the same toys or not.

What are the parents views? Do they dress the kids identically, or (conversely) get p1ssy with total strangers for not being able to tell them apart? Are they the sort of parents that would fly off the handle is you gave their twins a joint birthday card (see previous thread) or would they be perfectly happy if you bought their children one toy they could both play with?

LittleJennyRobyn · 29/11/2011 12:32

I would definitly go for different, I dont have twins but, 2 boys 2 years apart and hated it when they both got given the same, was pointless as all thier toys/books were shared anyway and very rarely played with at the same time.

lambethlil · 29/11/2011 12:35

Different- twice the pleasure.

Two of the same seems wasteful.

or buy one bigger joint present that they can both play with

Maybe too young for this now, but my brother bought by DTs a workbench play set and they love playing with it together (when not fighting over it)

muddysnowballsthenativitycow · 29/11/2011 12:44

I have got my friends twins a tractor each, just different colours.

Last year they had a brio train each from us, again same type, bit different colour.

Friend was happy as they knew who belonged to who. They are very fight all the time competitive.

Mightimama · 29/11/2011 15:11

Thanks everyone for your opinions - I think we are going to go different but from the same range!!

My cousin has twin teens and ive never bought them the same , Why should you its a bit daft the toddlers will play together anyway and probs share toys and 2 of the same might be a bit boring , Maybe you can get them the same kind of toy but different if that makes sense ,

WineOhWhy · 29/11/2011 16:07

I have twin neices. One christmas someone bought them both a game of kerrplunk (sp?). Absolutely no point in that! I agree different but comparable. (eg kerrplunk for one, operation for the other).

Although when they were babies it was great as they got the same teddies/blankets, and when one adopted a particular teddy/blanket as a comforter, there was naturally a spare!

McPie · 29/11/2011 16:19

Always went down the same but different route with my two (pink and blue versions help) unless I know both of them would love the same thing but as they are boy/girl it does not happen very often.
