...using Tesco clubcard vouchers double up thingy. Basically, if Tesco don't have it, they arn't getting it.

Sounds fine to me! Mine is going to be pretty much all Amazon this year! One year, many moons ago, I did all of mine on Victoria Train Station in London! Grin

tunnelmaniac · 28/11/2011 19:23

I just got our Christmas wine by doubling up on vouchers and had some lovely posh ones.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 28/11/2011 19:24

Half of mine were won in a raffle Grin

Yankeecandlequeen · 28/11/2011 19:25

Not at all! All of mine have been on offer! Never pay full price for a present for anyone.

It's not the most popular supermarket on MN!
I feel like I've got all my presents for free (if I ignore the fact that my weekly shopping bill has gone up by at least 20% in the last year!)

So glad it's not just me!

All my presents for my sons come from eBay. All brand new with tags and less than 2/3rd of the shop price

Lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast · 28/11/2011 19:51

YANBU all mine came from Amazon this year, or Tesco!!

TescoXmas · 28/11/2011 19:57

Oh and Christmas cards are from the sales last year ! :)

It's a bit of a shame though. Don't get me wrong, if I wasn't saving mine for something I would have spent them on Xmas presents in the double up thing, but I just thing it's a bit shit that a massive supermarket gets so much of the market share. Small shops, market sellers, independents, all going out of business, struggling, failing due to recession/Internet shopping, and so many people do their Christmas shopping with their weekly shop :(
I know it's more effort to go browsing, but it's worth it, a bit.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 28/11/2011 20:06

i did all my xmas shopping at boots.com one year and spent the points in the sales Grin

TescoXmas · 28/11/2011 20:08

Eric, I agree! I actually feel a bit unreasonable and that's why I posted. At the same time I feel pleased that I haven't spent any (more)actual money, just vouchers.
I could have bought everything in town but I didn't. Tesco are big for a reason, their marketing sept know exactly what they ate doing and suck us all in!!
( I'm still pleased though! Blush )

dept. not sept

I got my DD a new bed and mattress for her flat last Xmas using the double up
She was delighted
I've ordered some stuff in the double up this year as pressies and treating us to some cases of wine - if it ever comes, been waiting all day mumble mumble grump

2kidsintow · 29/11/2011 20:22

As long as you picked nice things that you think people want I don't think it matters where you get them from.

Mind you, my OH did make me cry one year by doing a one stop shop at Halfords.

NotEnoughTime · 29/11/2011 20:43

2kids-I misread Halfords for HARRODS and I couldnt think why you were complaining Grin

MigGril · 29/11/2011 21:07

Well your not the only one. My present money got spent on something else so it was either Tesco or no one would get anything this year.

Proudnscary · 29/11/2011 21:15

YABU - if we all did that the high street and smaller shops and chains would well and truly die a death.

We boycotted Tesco years ago - final straw was Tesco insurance (on top of petrol/electrical goods/clothes/booze/toys etc etc)

sayithowitis · 29/11/2011 23:12

YANBU. I have purchased gifts to be sent to six relatives who don't live near enough to see at Christmas, purchased my Mum and MIls presents, bought presents for my two nephews and my BIL. I've also saved a massive amount off the price of a kitchen appliance that decided to die last week. All together I have had around £250 of purchases for just £80 in Clubcard vouchers. If I hadn't had those, everyone would have been lucky to get even a box of choccies each this year. The town where I live has very, very few independant stores, it is a well known shopping area but it is mainly the major chains. So, afaiac, there is not much difference between spending in Boots or at tesco. Except for the fact that I do not have to pay £silly to park at Tesco. Parking in our town is around £12 for five hours. It is ridiculous and is now actuall cheaper for me to get in the car and drive to the massive out of town mall 10 miles away. But its just major chains there as well, I might as well go to Tesco.

Yanbu and well done!
