uncle is staying over in our spare room tonight. he called and asked as its a five hour drive home & he wasn't expecting to need to stay over. only have an hours warning and the place is a tip & i have a 3 month old ds.

have limited time to blitz the place & have just realised that DP's mum stayed in the room 2 weeks ago for 1 night. is it really bad if i just air the sheets a bit? he's a workman and his place is a pig sty. he only ever has clean sheets if my mum does them. plus it means i'll have 2 lots of sheets to wash. and i don't have a tumble dryer and no where to dry them as we live in a balcony-less flat!

he's taking me dp & ds for food a a thank you so i feel guilty. i wouldn't want to sleep in someone elses sheets!

(btw, i'm breastfeeding DS as I type, so i couldn't of changed them in the time it took to type this!)

Don't change the sheets ,they'll be fine .
Enjoy the meal ,you deserve it !

Sexolette · 28/11/2011 16:28

Sounds like it would be fine to leave them

Flisspaps · 28/11/2011 16:28

I wouldn't change them, I'd air them - especially as it's short notice and it was only 1 night.

I'd change them after he's gone though, two lots of guests staying on them might be a but much.

HairyBeaver · 28/11/2011 16:29

Fabreeze them then they'll smell fresh :)

LoonyRationalist · 28/11/2011 16:29

Yes, Yabu. Ywnbu to provide clean sheets and ask him to do it himself however.

GiserableMitt · 28/11/2011 16:29

I wouldn't want to sleep in someone else's sheets, and I would always make sure my guest had clean sheets but given the circumstances, a squirt of Febreze may suffice?

Proudnscary · 28/11/2011 16:29

Spray that freshener spray thing on them and open the windows

bunnybunyip · 28/11/2011 16:30

I wouldn;t bother, sounds too stressful and he'll never know, it won't do him any harm. Would feel a teeny bit guilty for a few minutes though!

mrsscoob · 28/11/2011 16:30

Why do you need to blitz the place if his place like you say is a pig sty, then surely he won't care if your house is a bit messy. I wouldn't worry about the sheets or the mess, it is very nice of you to put him up for the night.

ilovetheshops · 28/11/2011 16:30

Leave the sheets but change the pillowslip

valiumredhead · 28/11/2011 16:30

I predict a divided thread Grin

Some will say -

OOOOOOOOOOOO you skanky mare that is REVOLTING, I bet you only wash your towels every day too don't you? EVERYONE knows you should wash them every half and hour.

or

Meh?!! Just air it out a bit and Bob's you uncle! Grin

TheLaminator · 28/11/2011 16:31

if he only changes his own sheets when his mum does it for him, i doubt he`d be bothered or even notice.

if you feel bad & feel you should explain, just say you havnt had time, with looking after your own family and all tthat....

If he`s narked or offended, dont have him to stay again.

House guests should be at your convienince.

Proudnscary · 28/11/2011 16:32

Valium - I haven't dared post, nay even look, at the washing the towels thread as I can't bear domestic chat and no way would I ever speak the truth about my slovenly habits.

JAMW · 28/11/2011 16:32

sod it, i've changed the pillowcases!¬
thanks everyone, don't feel so guilty now. Might not order to desert tho, just as a compromise! Grin

OP posts:
tanfastic · 28/11/2011 16:33

I'd leave them. Just change the pillowcase.

GirlWithALlamaTattoo · 28/11/2011 16:35

Change the pillowcase, air the sheets, he'll be grand.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 28/11/2011 16:36

I second (third, fourth?) the 'leave the sheets but change the (top) pillowcase' opinion. I bet your mum is nice and clean anyway and it's only my face that I'd be really bothered about having clean linen against. In fact, I have been known to change pillowcases alone when out of time/energy for a full linen change. Better that than nothing!

I doubt he will even think twice about it.

squeakytoy · 28/11/2011 17:01

He is a bloke, so trust me... he will neither notice or care! Grin

BarkisIsWillin · 28/11/2011 17:18

... have the dessert too if there's something really yummy on the menu! Bf mothers need desserts.

Google607 · 28/11/2011 17:37

Change pillowcases, give covers a squirt of febreeze and turn down the duvet .. will look like you are all ready for his arrival.. with minimum effort...

BleurghUna · 28/11/2011 17:40

Change them! It only takes 5 mins to change sheets and bung them in the washer!

RumpleForeskin · 28/11/2011 17:41

Febreeze and give a shake up.

You don't need the extra washing I imagine.

Heebiejeebie · 28/11/2011 18:48

Is this thread a viral marketing tool for Fabreze? Who are you Fabrezers? Is your mother likely to leave sheets malodorous 2 weeks after a single sleep?
