DS2 is 7. His school have a uniform, and although it's not enforceable, it's encouraged that they wear it.

In August i bought him several pairs of new grey school trousers in preperation for the coming school year, thinking he would get mst of the year out of them.

Today he has come home with yet another hole in the knee of his trousers. That's the fifth pair he's gone through in the past six weeks, and i am hearty sick of it.

I've explained till i'm blue in the face that he needs to look after his things, and this includes his clothes, but it's in one ear and out t'other.

It's got to the point now where i'm inclined to spend the money i would use to replace the school trews on jeans for him instead - at least they are more hardwearing and durable.

If i do so though, i know the head's going to pull a face, but frankly, it's not her that has to afford to replace them.

AIBU in sending him to school in jeans from now on?

DH was like this with his school trousers so MIL sent him with patches until they completely went at the knee, then cut them off to make shorts and sent him in them. Oh the shame Grin, he soon stopped going through them so quickly! Alternatively you could take his pocket money (if he gets it) towards new trousers.

My youngest did that by sliding on his knees. We cured him by making him wear his shorts for a week - in November. His teacher pulled a face, but when we explained, she agreed!

Long pink bloomers underneath will soon put a stop to that sort of thing Grin

Where are you buying them from and what is your son doing to cause the holes?? I buy my son's trousers in M&S and I have only ever had to throw out approx 2 pairs due to wear at the knee since starting school in reception and he's now in year 4. I have only ever thrown out others due to him growing out of them. Perhaps review where you buy them from.

Marmite - these are from M&S.

I can sew and patch, but there's fraying all around the holes and nothing really substantial to patch or sew onto, iyswim?

My son's were also M&S. They could've been bloody Harrods, they still won't stand up to 3.5 ft of small boy 'knee skidding' on them.
