I am absolutely straining at the bit to get my tree up but have promised myself and dp that I'll wait until the weekend when it's December. I hate it all starting too early, but I also hate the tree only being up for a week or so and then it's all over and cleared away so quickly. Plus it's expensive to get a tree and decorate the house, so I might as well get the most from it.

It is advent started on sunday not that iput my own decorations up , schools.nurseries always start their celebrations early so they can fit in all the bits and bobs they do for xmas , I think your being a bit scroogey Grin

When you consider a lot of places close for Christmas they lose two weeks of December don't they?

Here in Switzerland everyone had their lights up for last weekend. It's part of advent. The tree goes up later and the candles are light on Christmas eve.

Slade, i'm sure, is welcome anytime.

our decs went up last wednesday.
i dont care what people think, its my fave time of year, its dark early and christmas lights make it so much more bareable!

VikingLady · 29/11/2011 17:22

I work from home, it's just got dark, and I can see three houses on our street with outdoor Christmas lights up already! Their electric bill will be huge!

We've been switching our outside decorations in the evening since the clocks went back - we live down quite a dark drive and our proper light isn't working. If we don't have them on then we don't get the evening paper delivered and it's more difficult to reverse gthe car back in etc.

It's sheer laziness because we didn't want to damage the paint and brickwork by doing the lights every year that the lights are permanently there. However we wouldnt be bothering if we could get a good light that worked fitted.

Our neighbour on the otherhand seems to be deeply offended by the decorations - mostly that she wasn't first to switch hers on :o Hers appeared the next day in basic form and more are added each week!

YANBU. Can't believe Slade is for the benefit of the children - why not some nice Christmas carols? :)

YABU!

At least it wasn't Gary Glitter they were playing like at my local community centre coffee morning last week!
