To think that pushchairs should have same priority as wheelchairs on buses?

Today - packed bus, I was in the pushchair bit on the bus, another mum got on with a buggy loaded with shopping. People sat in space that could have held another buggy in it didn't get up so both our pushchairs had to go in one space and my pushchair is one of those big all-terrain things! Then bus driver stopped bus for wheelchair user and asked us if either of us could fold down our pushchairs/move? Well, first of all, there wouldn't have been any room for us to sit down with our babies and also have our shopping on our knee or even stored on luggage shelf once pushchairs were on. Also the bus service I travel on has a bus every 4 minutes in the daytime. So the bus driver (who obviously has to be sen to be doing the right thing) got off the bus to tell the wheelchair user that the bus was full, and would he mind waiting for the next one, which he didn't anyway. What does everyone else think? Should we mums with our pushchairs be given the same priority as wheelchairs? Should bus drivers ask other passengers to move so that we can get on, instead of (sometimes) feeling like we are an annoyance and an obstacle to them?

Are you for real?
At some point your child will be able to get out of its pushchair and walk.
Try being stuck in a wheelchair for life. So NO pushchairs should not be treated the same as a wheelchair.

Dawndonnaagain · 26/02/2017 22:51

bebec it's a law and a policeman would make you get off.

Dawndonnaagain · 26/02/2017 22:52

talisman go to bed, you've got school in the morning.

Francis don't do it to yourself. I admire you for it but you know you're going to be banging your head against a brick wall going around in circles with trying to point out the obvious. Brew

ALemonyPea · 26/02/2017 22:53

What is this magical taxi budget of which you speak? I really miss st inform SIL and her care agency because she hasn't been claiming it alongside the other wheelchair users she socialises with.

viques · 26/02/2017 22:54

is boasting about having an all terrain pushchair and then insisting on going on the bus the equivalent of living in the city with a 4x4 that never sees a patch of mud.

Janet80 · 26/02/2017 22:55

Ahh, surely Bebec is just teasing us with her ridiculous argument? Nobody could be that ridiculous!
Wheelchairs legally take priority over pushchairs! It's not a choice, it's law. Many intelligent, knowledgable people looked at the case and agreed. I'm not saying pushchairs can't occupy the space if it is empty, but if it isn't then pushchairs should be folded and put in the storage racks. It's not rocket science! Buggies are made collapsible for these very reasons!

Graceflorrick · 26/02/2017 22:56

I know this is unhelpful, but this is another reason that I will never use public transport.

bebec · 26/02/2017 22:58

Really dawn ok ..but I've been in a situation similar to this and no they can't they can only arrest you for disturbing the peace they wont do that they have better things to do ..its advised its not a law ..if you want to stay you can .

bebec · 26/02/2017 23:09

Yes dawn as it says "
persude non wheelchair users to move without making it a legal duty to move them .".that's what I said it's advised its not a law

Dawndonnaagain · 26/02/2017 23:13

is it just me or does bebec have no posting history?

IFartGlitter · 26/02/2017 23:14

bebec in my opinion, only a pus filled polyp residing on the anus of humanity would refuse to vacate the space that gives priority to wheelchair users.

Which are you? A decent human being with empathy or a pus filled polyp?

Spikeyball · 26/02/2017 23:15

Bebec, if you were working with my very vulnerable wheelchair using son, I would expect you to put his needs first.
