DH and I are having a slight disagreement. Do you eat egg, chips and beans or chips, beans and egg?? I'm excluding the sausage to attract the vegetarians to my debate!

LeBOF · 26/11/2011 23:40

I am from Liverpool, and we all say egg and chips, just the same as normal people, I promise you. Shirley Valentine is an aberration in that respect.

thefurryone · 26/11/2011 23:40

In Northern Ireland they have a chip instead of chips, possibly the use of chip in Liverpool comes from the large Irish influence.

AgentZigzag · 26/11/2011 23:40

What do you have instead of beans furry?

Spag hoops?

muffinflop · 26/11/2011 23:42

Urgh at spag hoops. DH thinks it's chips first and he's from the SW like me!

OP posts:
thefurryone · 26/11/2011 23:43

Nothing, just the egg and chips with lots of vinegar and a bit of ketchup for me chips.

muffinflop · 26/11/2011 23:43

And whoever said the beans musnt touch the egg..DS would love you.

OP posts:
YULEingFanjo · 26/11/2011 23:44

The egg is soft boiled though, right?

muffinflop · 26/11/2011 23:46

Noooo sunny side up!!

OP posts:
squeakytoy · 26/11/2011 23:46

beans must deffo not touch the egg..

beans with scrambled egg is minging...

If I have a fry up, I prefer tinned tomatoes rather than beans, and if it is fishfingers and chips, it has to be garden peas (frozen, never tinned)...

My husband will happily eat beans with everything!

OldGreyWassailTest · 26/11/2011 23:48

You're all wrong - it's egg, beans and chips.

LeBOF · 26/11/2011 23:52

That one is excusable on the protein rule, OldGrey. But in most cases, there is no room for variance.

PeneloPeePitstop · 26/11/2011 23:57

aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh the apostrophe misuse

fairimum · 27/11/2011 00:00

ummm egg, beans and chips!

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 27/11/2011 07:37

(sausage), egg, chips and beans.

Also Fish & Chips (often shorted to just 'Fish Shop' or 'Chip Shop')

And SqueakyToy can cook me a fry up any day, beans have no part in that, it should be tinned tomatoes all the way.

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 27/11/2011 07:45

ooooh egg chips and beans.

that's dinner sorted! yum.

seeker · 27/11/2011 07:47

Egg chips and beans.

Unless you are my ds who is still inclined to put chips first because they are his culinary holy grail, and he doesn't get them often.

Are we the only family who never, ever make chips at home?

storminabuttercup · 27/11/2011 07:53

It's egg, Chips and beans

Fish and chips

But the shop is the 'fish shop' or 'chippy'

Yorkshire lass!

storminabuttercup · 27/11/2011 07:54

Or the 'chipoil' (chip hole)

Psammead · 27/11/2011 07:55

Eggs, chips and beans.

Why would you even ask this? Whhyyyyy? There is no other way. Eggs, chips and beans.

Eggs, chips and beans.

It's the way nature intended.

It has been that way since eggs, chips and beans were invented and it will stay that way until eggs, chips and beans are replaced by nourishment pills. And even then, if the nourishment pills are egg, chips and beans flavoured, they will still be called EGGS, CHIPS AND BEAN flavoured nourishment pills.

I think I may have overdone the coffee.

seeker · 27/11/2011 08:34

Just checked with dp- Brqdford to the core. He says he wouldn't have anything to do with such a nesh Southern meal- it's egg, chips beans and black pudding.

exoticfruits · 27/11/2011 08:51

Egg, chips and beans. The egg is the protein and the chips and beans accompany. In the same way it is fish and chips, roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, quiche and salad. Protein first.

Andrewofgg · 27/11/2011 08:58

Egg, chips and beans.

Egg, chips, sausage and beans.

Spam, spam, spam, spam . . .

lottiegb · 27/11/2011 09:10

Agree with LeBOF. Anyone putting chips first thinks that they are the most important component of the meal, rather than the main carb and are merely accompanied by small quantities of the other things. Even if that's how they eat them its not 'correct' in normal culinary termonology. Do they also eat 'roast potato, yorkshire pudding, veg, beef and gravy'?
