to not be able to stop thinking about cigarettes?

I'm 32 weeks pg, I've had the fucking shittiest week from hell and I have an US appt on Monday to see why my baby girl has stopped growing at 28 weeks.

All I want is a cigarette and a gin. I'm getting angry because it's all I can think about and it's the one thing I can't have.

Lots of sympathy for you, as a drinker and smoker. You're doing fantastically well to have given up for so long, bloody well done you. All I can suggest is drink juice or tea, and eat fruit, eating apples is supposed to kill the craving for nicotine. Then you need something to occupy your hands. Can you knit, or cook something that needs lots of chopping. Or, google how to make pompoms. Sorry if these are really daft.
Lots of luck. And hope your scan goes OK. x

Dons flack jacket.

I don't think one gin will hurt you. DD was born 13-1/2 years ago. 5th pg and up until then one baby. My obstetrician said a G&T a day wouldn't hurt me and if it got me through to go for it. I did on the basis that I'd done everything by the book for the last four pgs and they had all been disastrous (except ds who was born at 36 weeks and was bright blue and spent his first night in scbu). DD was born at 41.5 weeks, 9lb and had an apgar score of 9+ - after 11 scans and more scares than most mnetters have had hot dinners.

Good luck OP - it's bloody hard when it isn't like the text book says.

And how would a cigarette and a gin help?

prettyfly1 · 26/11/2011 19:26

Bibbity I think the answer to that question is fairly obvious. OP of course you want to find some relief to the stress that you are under, its normal and you wouldnt be human if you didnt. Neither is a good idea right now but then you know that. Is there someone who can come and keep you distracted for a bit to try and take your mind off it ( as much as possible).

brisk walk around the block my dear. And think how sick you with yourself you'll be in the morning if you start smoking again tonight. Smile

NoobyNoob · 26/11/2011 19:38

I know, I wouldn't smoke - I'd feel far, far too guilty and I don't want to make her ill.

I've calmed down a bit and had a small glass of wine instead :)

Good. A small gin is fine. Well done for not having the bastard cigarette!

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 26/11/2011 19:59

The thing with having ONE ciggy is, you soon want another, and all the good work you've put in so far by giving up is undone as you have to start all over again beating the cravings and withdrawal. You're doing so well, and it must be so hard when you're stressed and worried :( but hang in there - You Can Do This, really you can. Have a wee G&T if it helps, a small one won't hurt, as long as you don't swig the whole bottle or have one every day, but resist that cig. You wouldn't dream of bending over the crib and blowing smoke into your baby's face would you?
Hang in there, you can do it!

zookeeper · 27/11/2011 13:10

Agree - it's not the one cigarette; it's the thousands that would follow..
