Boycotting restaurant in Croydon for charging for the presence of babies.

To boycott this restaurant over their new policy- breastfeeding mothers are to be charged 3.00 pounds just for the presence of their baby in the establishment.
Feel free to let them know how you feel if you also want to take a stand against such greedy and non children friendly policies.

I don't think it ia anti child though is it - they just have a minimum charge of £3 for them.

It's not that much in the grand scheme of things, I don't think it makes them anti child.

still not understanding the bf comment

Geordieminx · 25/11/2011 18:59

What's that saying again?

Oh yes,.. There's no such thing as bad publicity...

This restaurant was also criticised by the Fire Service last month:-

I strongly suspect that the point of the price is to discourage people taking babies in, thus changing the atmosphere of the place, so well done giving them the publicity and also helping them achieve their aim.

GetOrf

No, it honestly isnt just chinese, or slop. And I am bloody fussy when it comes to eating out.. I like reasonable quality and standards.

Cosmo has chinese, indian, japanese, thai, english and plenty more. And it isnt all deep fried and covered in salt to make you drink more, or sloppy. It was surprisingly good.

The place is always packed, and it is huge, but the layout is very nice. Lots of space, very nice decor (am only speaking for Croydon as have not been to any of the others), spotlessly clean, and the staff were efficient.

And drinks were also not overpriced either. Which is usually the case in these sort of places.

It is definately a good place if there are a few of you going out and you dont want the hassle of people faffing about with splitting the bill, as everyone pays the set price and can then go up to the bar to get their own drinks.

I really dont see a problem with charging a nominal amount of £3 for kids. They are running a business, not a charity.

SoupDragon · 25/11/2011 19:07

read the article. They don't charge for babies.

Greenshadow · 25/11/2011 19:27

Presumably like Angel Chef in Glos Getorf. Never been there?
It's not exactly high cuisine, but quite fun for children and DSs have been to a few parties there.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 25/11/2011 19:52

I went there on my 40th precisely because of how child friendly it is - we had children ranging from a year up to my hulking great teenager and they all had a great time. I had a stress free family do (had a very nice adult evening out with DH the night before) which for 35+ people eating in a reasonably priced restaurant is pretty good. It's loud and lively, definitely not somewhere for a romantic adult evening out but perfect for big groups and families.

I've been there 3 times now, twice with work and then with family and the food has always been surprisingly good.

Get0rf · 25/11/2011 20:37

Haha greenshadow - yes, have been to Angel Chef, so imagine Cosmo is like that.

My dd loves it in there - she and all her mates gather and go and eat their own bodyweight in chinese food for a bargainous lunch.

I went once and didn't like the plastic plates, can see it;s ideal for young kids, though.

cherrysodalover · 26/11/2011 01:54

AH yes Rhonda Jean- a thread of 3 pages o mumsnet's most transient area of the board, is remarkable publicity for the chain-I think you may find the daily mail article will have been read more widely than this perhaps so feel free to thank them.
I am glad Cosmos has now responded and retracted- babies will not be charged 3 pounds but in the case of the article, the woman was charged so perhaps they will address their staff training now and prevent such pr blunders happening again.

higgle If restaurants charging people who bring their own wine is called corkage, should charging mothers who bring their own breastmilk be called norkage?

Greenshadow · 26/11/2011 15:52

Brilliant Mjanatee!

higgle · 27/11/2011 12:17

Indeed!

Sandalwood · 27/11/2011 12:31

I expect they have quite a few customers who take the piss by feeding babies/toddlers from their own plate.
