Aibu to strike if I'm not in a union?
I want to, I don't see why I should have to be in a union to make a stand?

Indirectly the PUBLIC are also your employer in that their taxes (obviously yours too) pay for the public sector.

I think it would be more true to say the public are the customers rather than an employer. The LA and the government are the employer. I indirectly pay the wages of the shop assistant in Tesco, I am the customer, not the employer.

Yes, you're right I guess Catherine, that's a better analogy. Only, we can choose to shop at Tesco, we can't choose to pay our taxes. If Tesco goes on strike, we can go elsewhere for our goods. If the public sector strike, we don't get the services we've already paid for. It's not like the government are going to re-imburse a little bit of everyones' tax for that day (or the other days there have/will be in the future). So, in that way, it kind of punishes the public probably more than it does the government. And what have we done?

I am off on Wednesday, I am one of those diner ladies who has not been given a contract so I can't even pay into a pension so goodness knows what I will get when I am of pensionable age.

I think this govt stinks, we are the low paid and yet they want more contributions and we will not get a decent pension anyway. We do this job (and believe me it is NOT easy) to fit in with our children (I have no choice, I have no relations to help with childcare) so we can earn a wage. I also do childminding but I am also struggling to get parents as they cannot afford fees.

This country is a mess!!
