To wonder how parents wll cope on Wednesday...

So had email from school-is definitely shutting on wednesday for strike. DH tells me that at work (NHS) they've been told that they need to sort out childcare for that day, as apart from those involved with strike, no-one is to have annual leave to cover child care. Those who had booked it,it is cancelled. No-one is allowed to be off sick, without a Dr's note to cover, even though it's just one day, which you can normally self certificate for.
What do they think parents can do with 6days notice?
Anyone else had this?

The NHS - I can't speak for any other public sector workers as I don't know- are not allowing holidays on the 30th , unless it's pre booked before this all became an issue.
It's unpaid leave (not carer leave)

I haven't got any family near and DH has to work that day.

And, what everyone is forgetting- this won't be a one-off by the looks of things.
What if there are several strike days?

I think public sector workers have to accept that even if people are sympathetic to their cause it IS a bloody nuisance for many people sorting out childcare etc. Striking is going to cost other working parents money in extra childcare.
Our primary school will be closed and no before or after school club.
Some people who work in retail don't get paid for one day off [eg for sickness] so it is unpaid day for them or taking holiday. Of course it is pissing people off.
I guess that is the point.
