strike or not to strike

i am a nhs domestic.

i am still in 2 minds if i should strike or not, it is driving me mad trying to come up with the decsion.

I have Child care in place, can't really afford to strike and have no clue why there is a strike other than it's for the pension.

i am in unison and also pay into the pension

Rather than posting on here, why not go onto the Unison website and read about why the strike is happening.

I'm confused... if you don't know why you're striking then why would you consider striking? Are you just doing it for the sake of it?

I assume that most people going on strike would have a clear reason as to why they're doing it... not just going along for the ride.

i am only 25, so not given pension much of a thought. The only reason i pay into the pension was because my father said i would be very stupid to opt out of the pension (this was when i was 18)

i don't understand pension and what the reforms will mean to me

I work in the private sector so am not the right person to ask... but from what I understand it's all about final salaries and pensions etc... probably best to ask your colleagues about this and get good advice and then make your decision to strike based on your findings. No point in 'jumping on the bandwagon' (sorry) if you don't know why you're doing it.

Also, you're never too young to start thinking about your pension :) I sound like my mum!

As iggi says, try the Unison website... but do get some opinions from non-Union members too, so you have a lot more info

Go to the Unison site and read their reasons for striking.

I sat on the fence but am striking for several reasons but mainly because

I lose a day's pay for going on strike but I'll lose that EVERY month anyway with the new pension deal.

I want to support MY union (I don't think you should be in a striking union and not join them in striking. That's when you should join a different union)

DS's teachers are striking so I need to pay for a full day's childcare for DS. Once I've done that, I'll have earnt about £10 for the day and tbh, I'd rather spend the day at home with him and back up other public sector workers who are on strike.
