You bored Scuzy? No not being unreasonable, as yogurt is off milk. Maybe a bit more off is even better :o

TeriHatchetJob · 24/11/2011 13:29

I used a 6 month out of date, but sealed, pot of creme fraiche this week. It was fine...............

Flisspaps · 24/11/2011 13:30

I'd eat it, depending on the flavour.

fluffyanimal · 24/11/2011 13:30

YANBU, I do it all the time.

BUT, I do keep the slightly out of date ones to myself (i.e. no letting the kids or nanna get them) and if there is any hint of off-ness in terms of sight, smell or taste, then it goes in the bin.

scuzy · 24/11/2011 13:31

lunch break wheremymilk. so yeah i'm in work and def bored.

I think most people know that best by dates are only guidelines

I just give it a sniff, if I don't recoil in horror, I eat it.

hackmum · 24/11/2011 13:35

If it smells OK, and it hasn't got green bits on the top, it's fine.

TroublesomeEx · 24/11/2011 13:37

Yep if you open it and it doesn't climb out and slither away I think you're ok.

Although I tend to judge by the bulge of the lid and how much it's separated in the pot...

Schnarkle · 24/11/2011 13:39

Give it the smell test. Same as WorraLiberty and hackmum, if it doesn't make me gag and no green furry bits, it's all good.

Best Before not Die After

pigletmania · 24/11/2011 13:47

Yeh fine, I ate yoghurts 1 month past their sell date, use your senses. Like other others said you are not going to die.

TalkinPeace2 · 24/11/2011 13:52

I've got a 13 years out of date yoghurt in the top of my fridge. Don't plan to eat it but cannot bear to throw it away now. I've had it longer than my kids.

Yoghurt is fine up to three weeks after the date so long as the seal is unbroken.

jchocchip · 24/11/2011 15:21

:) Mum gets really anoyed when carers throw away food. She grew up in the time before best before. If yoghurt or cream is sealed, and refridgerated it keeps much longer than it says. Just use the dates for stock rotation and eat the oldest first...

Olderyetwilder · 24/11/2011 15:23

YABU eating yoghurt. 'Tis the devil's jizz

WhatAboutMeMeMe · 24/11/2011 15:34

if it looks ok and smells ok, its ok

complexnumber · 24/11/2011 15:45

I used to teach an Egyptian girl who told me her dad would deliberately leave yoghurts out for days after their sell by date, they just didn't taste right to him otherwise.

Apparently, the Maasia people of East Africa used to be quite partial to a mix of blood and sour milk, personally I would not like to dunk my Rich Teas into that.

BringHimHome · 24/11/2011 15:47

Sell by dates do not mean 'Eat by'. Anyway, I had a dozen Asda yogurts for 3 months after their 'date' and they were superb.

Splinters · 24/11/2011 16:16

Your colleague is being v unreasonable and is probably a massive food waster. Best before dates are a total fiction which ought not to exist. Muppets will come of muppet-proofing..

scuzy · 24/11/2011 16:55

it wasnt a sell by date but glad the majority agree.

however my OH will NOT eat any luncheon meat out of a packet if he wasnt the first to open it. even if i say i only opened it last night, he wrinkles his nose smells it, puts it back in and opens a brand new one! grrr!

I expect it will be fine. I put a 3 days out of date yoghurt in DH's packed lunch (don't flame me for making DH a packed lunch Smile) on Monday and he is still with us Grin

flatbread · 24/11/2011 16:59

I've eaten 3 months the past date yogurt and been fine Grin

But mind you, it is only the plain stuff. Don't know what happens to the sugary sweet ones...though the sugar may make them last even longer!

flatbread · 24/11/2011 17:01

I meant 3 months past the 'best-before-date' Blush

randommoment · 24/11/2011 17:14

After experimenting with dairy produce for the past 22 years, I can reveal that Muller Fruit Corners go foul approx 3 months after use by. Clover lasts longer than butter - still fine at four months, whereas butter's going rancid after only one. Eggs managed six weeks. Waitrose milk goes off before its sell by date (!), whereas Co-op's lasts 2 or 3 days after. Waitrose cream on the other hand can go anything up to a week past date. Never get Co-op cream as it mysteriously costs twice as much, so cannot report.

confusedpixie · 24/11/2011 17:21

I ate some ten days later last week, I've had a funny tummy all week and used it to settle my sickyness. Worked for an hour or two Hmm
