and without it we would all be on valium? I mean everybody has something to dull the existential pain of existence

Hecubasdaughter · 23/11/2011 22:10

YABU, life is perfectly liveable without wine.

hiddenhome · 23/11/2011 22:11

I prefer fruit cake tbh.

twoofus · 23/11/2011 22:13

i remember wine .... a rich full bodied red mmmmmm then i had DD and not had a drop since found out was pg, shes 13 months now ....... i miss wine, but then i also miss reading books, watching a full program on the tele, dyeing my hair to get rid of the go faster stripes that have appeared at the sides ..... i could go on

BonnyBanks · 23/11/2011 22:20

Yabu... I hate the expression wine o'clock and agree with Hecuba.

usualsuspect · 23/11/2011 22:22

YANBU Wine

FunnysInTheGarden · 23/11/2011 22:32

life is liveable without wine, but those who go without anything at all are rare IME. I refuse to believe that most people live their adult life without something soporific.

BTW I think I meant the existential pain of being...........

Hecubasdaughter · 23/11/2011 22:35

I don't drink any alcohol at all and have no urge to either tbh. Not that I would stop someone else drinking.

usualsuspect · 23/11/2011 22:37

I could drink several bottles of wine right about now

FunnysInTheGarden · 23/11/2011 22:37

so hecuba do you take anything to dull the existential pain and if not how do you deal with it?

OP posts:
FunnysInTheGarden · 23/11/2011 22:39

go ferret usual, tis my usual mode of being.

JeremyVile · 23/11/2011 22:39

I enjoy the odd drink but it makes me want to nap. Not worth it for me so wine o'clock here is about 3-4 times a year.

Hecubasdaughter · 23/11/2011 22:39

No nothing at all. I eat too much chocolate but that doesn't numb the senses obviously.

WorraLiberty · 23/11/2011 22:41

I like a nice glass of wine or 3

And if you drink enough, it makes you slim cos you're too pissed to count the calories Grin

OriginalPoster · 23/11/2011 22:43

I'm so old that I often prefer a Brew

then I conclude that some of us are more aware and receptive to the EPOB (existential pain of being)

Really I have tried and tried, but the whole EPOB is too much on a regular basis, and I am a happy person who takes life in their stride, don't stress too much etc.

Any tips gratefully received

My emergency 5pm wine time this evening allowed me to rally and carry on being a good parent (as opposed to a gibbering mess). We went on to make fairy cakes. Without the wine, I suspect DP would have come home to DD confined to her room while I rocked myself back and forth, back and forth on the carpet. Hmm

As is was, DD looked loving up at me and said "I love cooking with you mummy; you're the best mummy I have". "Luckily, I'm the only mummy you have, so you'll have to put up with a raving lush" "Thank you poppet, I'm having fun with you too", I replied.

Wine Grin

Still bfing. Smile

But I miss wine o'clock. Sad

Just the one isn't the same when it really is...

FunnysInTheGarden · 23/11/2011 22:59

lol, Aminita I think it was your 5pm thread that made me think about it.

Maryz I agree that if it threatens to get out of control then you are wise to reign it back. I have been a lurker on the BB thread, but have realised that I really want to stop at 2/3 - and do - and so don't have a problem per se. But I rally do salute all of you on there. Very tough for a lot of you.

Wine o'clock... indispensable. Except that I still want a ciggie to go with it. But then I get the same urge with tea...
