Firstly I have no problem with teacher's striking. I have a young teacher in the family and can see where they are coming from.

However, today I found a letter in dd's book bag saying that the school may or may not be open on 30th and please can we have alternative arrangement in place just in case.
AIBU to think more notice would have been good?

Obv knew stike was possible but as school had not been in touch of course we assumed we would not be affected.

If you are striking you should know all the facts at your finger tips. I know my business inside out and would not need to research it. I expect the same of you Wink and goodnight.

FontSnob · 23/11/2011 22:53

Jolly, here www.teacherspensions.co.uk/ is probably the best place for you to go.

AnyFucker · 23/11/2011 22:56

patronising much ?

I can think of a better place for "diane" to go to

and it doesn't involve us giving up our time educating her

< sheesh >

FontSnob · 23/11/2011 23:02

Oh Jolly, what a shame that you ended the conversation like that.

noblegiraffe · 23/11/2011 23:02

I'm surprised that someone who 'knows their business inside out' doesn't know how to use Google.

AnxiousElephant · 23/11/2011 23:05

I just wonder where all the professionals who are going on strike think the government will magic the money for their pensions from? Which part of the OWING BILLIONS do people not understand. If they don't cut pensions where should cuts come from? The fact is that nobody likes austerity measures but they are completely necessary to repay the UK debts unless we want to be in the same position as some European countries.

AnyFucker · 23/11/2011 23:05

precisely ng

in retrospect, diane is on a wind up

how dumb we are not to have seen it sooner

nice

FontSnob · 23/11/2011 23:14

AnxiousElephant which part of - the pension pot is full and doesn't need topping up with any extra money up - don't you understand? Why should public sector workers pay an extra tax? What do you think will happen when the workers who can no longer afford the contributions stop paying into the fund. Who will need to prop the pension up then?

AnyFucker · 23/11/2011 23:15

< cough > taxpayers < cough >

FontSnob · 23/11/2011 23:16

Anxious, perhaps the billions that we need could start to come from the massive corporations who don't pay any tax. Or the directors who say that we don't live in the real world whilst picking up a 49% pay rise over the last year.

FontSnob · 23/11/2011 23:20

No, fuck it, lets screw the middle man, because they are the scapegoat that people can see and blame. Yes thats right folks, its the teachers, nhs workers, local govt employees and all those people working for society that are to blame for the massive deficit in our govt bank balance.

Penalise the fuckers and make them pay for the banks fuck ups, get the SUN newspaper to tell everyone how the greedy bastards have their gold plated pensions and 13 weeks holiday a year.

Absolutely lets drag everyone down to the lowest common denominator.

noblegiraffe · 23/11/2011 23:20

Or a financial transactions tax on the banks.

FontSnob · 23/11/2011 23:23

No nobel, make the nurses pay. Greedy money grabbing feckers.

FontSnob · 23/11/2011 23:24

And don't get me started on the selfish twats who teach our kids, make those feckers pay even more!

AnyFucker · 23/11/2011 23:28

I think the hospital ancillary staff on minimum wage should pay the most

AnyFucker · 23/11/2011 23:28

poysonally

FontSnob · 23/11/2011 23:29

Oh yes, they sound dreadful, minimum wage, cheeky feckers, don't know they're born.

lassylass · 24/11/2011 01:11

"Anxious, perhaps the billions that we need could start to come from the massive corporations who don't pay any tax. Or the directors who say that we don't live in the real world whilst picking up a 49% pay rise over the last year."

You mean someone else should pay dont you? anyone else.

Gotta love the Union driven public sector. Cant see their own unsustainable greed or see that striking and winning means the cuts have to be applied somewhere else.

Public sector striking is nothing short of blackmail. And the people you are blackmailing are your friends and neighbours.

lassylass · 24/11/2011 01:14

No - its a lot short of Blackmail.

Extortion is better Wink

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/11/2011 02:14

I have to day if my DD's school closes I will find it very hard to understand the teachers..it is a school for children with severe learning difficulties and autism which prides itself on sticking to a routine to keep the kids secure and happy. Plus every day of input is so vital to.my DD at the moment.

But looks like it will..feel very disillusioned with the school and that's from thinking it is amazing. And I am no way right wing.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/11/2011 02:17

Also, have not had pay rise in 3 years and no pension, so heart can't really bleed for them

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/11/2011 02:24

Will probably wake up to a big roasting. But its just how I feel

wideawakenurse · 24/11/2011 06:26

I understand what you are saying Fanjo, but sadly the 'respect' of the public isan't going to pay my bills or mortgage.

I doubt very much that in 20 years time when the NHS is so fucked up because of this, that the public are going o be that happy.

Will you still 'respect' me if I can't help your ageing relative go to toilet or clean up human excrement quick enough because at 68 my back and shoulders are screwed from 40 years of nursing?

noblegiraffe · 24/11/2011 07:17

"Cant see their own unsustainable greed or see that striking and winning means the cuts have to be applied somewhere else."

It's like you don't understand that teachers have already been affected by cuts. Yes I would like these particular cuts (which in fact seem to be a money-making exercise) to be applied elsewhere, and I'm looking in particular at the woefully under-taxed banking sector which was the cause of this huge mess. Is that really so unfair?

violathing · 24/11/2011 07:30

Ths state pension which everyone gets could be increased to a decent level if state workers accepted that theirs are unaffordable. Isn;t it only fair that everyone gets a retirement package they can live on and not just teachers etc...
