to think Christmas should be cancelled this year?

It would save people going into debt to buy shiny presents that they can't afford. It would save family squabbles over who does what, when, where and how. It would stop Coke from advertising using the wrong coloured Father Christmas.

Proper Christians could celebrate Christmas in April instead.

AIBU?

Nope. I'm totally with you on this one.

SparkleSoiree · 23/11/2011 11:48

YABU.

All of the above would just happen in April instead. Grin

Memoo · 23/11/2011 11:48

Yabu! Not all of us get into debt for Xmas.

The coke advert should definitely be retired though.

Dirtydishesmakemesad · 23/11/2011 11:50

YABU simply because i like christmas food.
Its annoying that my budget is so small but my plan this year is small presents and do what we want and everyone else can piss off :)

ill report back in january...

Kayano · 23/11/2011 11:50

I'm in debt this Christmas...

But it's only because DH pc broke last night

Esta3GG · 23/11/2011 11:52

YABU. Tesco Reward Vouchers has pretty much paid for all of our Xmas.
Yes I know I shouldn't be in the thrall of the evil supermarkets but £200 of free goodies delivered to my door? Fabulous.

StaceymAloneForver · 23/11/2011 11:52

YABU, people should use common sense, i am not and never have been in debt because of christmas!

Kayano · 23/11/2011 11:54

I just got a letter from physio saying I had failed to attend my appointment... On the 29th November!!!!

Ffs the letter is dated 21st!

When I rang to query this the receptionist looked on pc and proceeded to tell me I had in fact missed the appointment. I had to fight my case that it was not or had ever been 29th Nov 2011! She only then decided to check the date!!

Turns out the physio is on hol Hmm That's fine but this had best not be a black mark on my file for failing to attend.
Bloody psychics

Kayano · 23/11/2011 11:55

Omfg!!! How the actual fuck did I post that here?! Sorry!!!

Continue ....

Callisto · 23/11/2011 12:02

So we should cancel Xmas because there are feckless idiots who think Christmas is all about buying the latest gadget? YABVU to assume that everyone is like this.

duckdodgers · 23/11/2011 12:03

YABU, I dont go into debt and I love Christmas, in fact I have already decorated my house and garden.

Callisto · 23/11/2011 12:03

And not every family squabbles at Christmas either.

KalSkirata · 23/11/2011 12:04

we dont really do anything for xmas bu they could cancel those bloody awful ancient films and put on something good.

FaverollesWithBoughsOfHolly · 23/11/2011 12:06

YABU. Many shops and manufacturers rely on Christmas to keep trading.
People should learn not to spend what they don't have.

slavetofilofax · 23/11/2011 12:06

What are you on about with the wrong coloured Father Christmas? Confused

YABU, I love Christmas (and the coke ad) and although it's tight, we don't get into debt. Christmas doesn't make people go into debt, greed does.

TroublesomeEx · 23/11/2011 12:09

YABU. We don't go into debt at Christmas. DD wants a desk - I've bought her an old 2nd hand wooden one or £12, sanded down and painted butterflies on it. she's going to love it!!!

None of the adults in our families buy presents for each other, we make things (very crafty bunch!!) and spend time together.

We don't squabble at Christmas, we spend the day just the 4 of us and control how much time we spend with others.

When we asked our children what they liked the best about Christmas last year, they (11 and 4) agreed it was "just being all together and the food".

When I asked about the presents, they both agreed the presents were nice, but that joining the local church for open air carols, spending time with friends and family, and all the little family rituals and traditions that are unique to us are what it's about for us. We've been really careful to not make Xmas all about the gifts.

And nothing shiny in sight. Except that DS has asked for a camera this year. But not an expensive one.

TroublesomeEx · 23/11/2011 12:10

Oh and all the really cheesy afternoon films on Channel 5 are all christmassy.

Andrewofgg · 23/11/2011 12:10

And every year.

HUMBUG!

PeneloPeePitstop · 23/11/2011 12:11

Oh how sad

giraffesCantDookForApples · 23/11/2011 12:13

You don't have to spend loads to have a nice time.

AKMD · 23/11/2011 12:15

What are you on about with the wrong coloured Father Christmas?

Father Christmas used to wear green until Coca Cola changed him to make him fit in with their colour scheme. Now people hardly remember

:o I love starting not-very-serious threads and watching people go Shock

YABU

There's no need to get into debt. Don't get me wrong I love the whole present thing, but this year I have set a fairly low limit, and to be truthful the things I am looking forward to most are the Dcs being off school, DH and I being off work, and all the cheesy christmas music and films which get shoved down your throat played all through December.

DesperatelySeekingPomBears · 23/11/2011 12:22

You should go to the grotto at Hamsterley Forest in the North East. Santa wears green and everything, and he has a REAL beard!

happybubblebrain · 23/11/2011 12:25

No way, I love Christmas. Children love Christmas. It gives people something to look forward to in the middle of winter. Nobody needs to spend loads - you can make decorations and presents and Christmas dinner doesn't need to cost a fortune. Or, it can be saved up for, it's not an unexpected expense is it? Does it really matter what colour Santa is? AKMD - you have a green one if you want to, nobody says you can't.

peanutmakinalistncheckinitwice · 23/11/2011 12:29

YABU I LUUURVE Christmas!!!
