Book token advert

She looks about 8 or 9 - surely The Gruffalo is aimed more at 3-5 year olds?

OP posts:
MincePieFlavouredVoidka · 22/11/2011 21:10

She looks about 6 imo, and there are some words in the Gruffalo that I think 3-5 year olds would struggle with if reading alone.

orienteerer · 22/11/2011 21:11

YABVU, I love The Gruffalo

MilkNoSugarPlease · 22/11/2011 21:12

Berry Room on the broom is fab! Though it's called " The WHOOOOSH book" n our house :o

Why, in gods name, does it bloody matter OP?!

BadDayAtTheOrifice · 22/11/2011 21:14

'Astounding' said the gruffalo.

IneedAbetterNickname · 22/11/2011 21:14

TBH I couldn't tell from the pic how old the child was, but OP YABU! You are never to old for the gruffalo, EVER! As others have said, one age group will like it being read to them, older children will be reading it to themselves. If it's ONLY for 3-5 yr olds, then DS2 has less than a year to get over his obsession, seems unlikely to me!

AurraSing · 22/11/2011 21:16

It depends on how big you think the gruffalo in the background is. I don't think he is that big so guess she is about six. You might think he is bigger, therefore think she is 10.

I'm beginning to doubt that she is actually reading the book. It may be a pose for a photo.

Perhaps she's a really young-looking teacher and she's reading it to her class. Grin

ThierryHenryismyBoyfriend · 22/11/2011 21:18

I don't think so, I love the book and I'm early 40's!

As an aside what is your view on adults reading Harry Potter, or is that allowed because it is 'HP'!?

Meh. I'm 35. Sometimes I read my old boarding school stories when I'm having a bad day.

Sandalwood · 22/11/2011 21:23

And another one How old is she?

Francagoestohollywood · 22/11/2011 21:23

YABU. Besides, my dd is 7, she is interested in chapter books, but still enjoys going through her "toddler books".

pigletmania · 22/11/2011 21:24

YABVVU, The Gruffalo appeals to a lot of ages, including this 33 year old Smile

reelingintheyears · 22/11/2011 21:25

I still read Enid Blyton when i feel like it.

Why would anyone else care what i read?

SirBoobAlot · 22/11/2011 21:26

I love the Gruffalo. Am sincerely disappointed I wasn't allowed to do that advert Sad
OP, way too much thought into this. Toddlers love having it read to them, those a bit older memorise it, those a bit older learn to read it themselves, and the adults can bear to read them a billion times. The beauty of a successful childrens story!

DeliaSucks · 22/11/2011 21:27

Gosh, judging by some of the responses on here you'd think OP has purple pickles all over her back! It's only an advert! Not a very good one either, because she does look a bit old. I'm going to buck the trend and say YANBU.

youtalkintome · 22/11/2011 21:28

YABU the Gruffalo is my DHs favourite book Grin.

stealthsquiggle · 22/11/2011 21:28

Well I love the Gruffalo, and so does 9yo DS (and 5yo DD). So there, OP. On really rare good days DS will even read it to DD.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 22/11/2011 21:29

There's some funny videos on that site Grin

(Yes i may have too much time on my hands)

OhTheConfusion · 22/11/2011 21:31

Everyone in our house loves the Gruffalo... from 10wks to 40yrs!

Almost time to dig out Stick Man for his festive tale... all he wants is to make it back to the family tree (sob).

IneedAbetterNickname · 22/11/2011 21:32

I still read Enid Blyton when i feel like it.
Me too! And Noel Streatfield! Grin

TheOriginalNutcracker · 22/11/2011 21:33

LOL

Ds has two books aimed at 3ish year olds. ONe is about eating too much cake and one about brushing you teeth. He regularly gets them off the bookcase for a read. He is nearly 9.

Hulababy · 22/11/2011 21:33

My DD is 9y and if she saw it on a shelf she might pick it up and have a quick flick through and re-read. She loved it as a younger child so it would make her smile to see it and have a look.

I'd say the girl in the picture is younger than that though. She looks a fair bit younger than my DD.
