Alright, REALLY thick.

If £100 out of £55,000 is 0.18%, which I think it is, can you please tell me what 0.18% of £5,000 is?

And show your working out please!

Thanks Grin

£5,000 x 0.0018 = £9.

ViviPru · 22/11/2011 18:01

urgh sums

Tortington · 22/11/2011 18:01

nope sorry

bump

ChasingSquirrels · 22/11/2011 18:01

is is actually 0.181818% (recurring).

0.18% of £5,000 would be £9 (use a calculator :))
or 1% = £50, so 0.1% = £5 so 0.01% = £0.50 x 18 = £9

HoHum264 · 22/11/2011 18:02

errmmmm! you have me doubting myself but here goes:-

£55,000 x 0.18 = £9900 (18%)

£5000 x 0.18 = £900

If you think about it logically, 10% of £55,000 is £5500 therefore £100 can't possibly £100!

lovelydogs · 22/11/2011 18:03

Oh no it's that easy Blush

Sorry, and thanks. Will have to name change now lol

HoHum264 · 22/11/2011 18:04

sorry just read that back therefore 18% can't possibly be £100

lovelydogs · 22/11/2011 18:06

Hohum you've confused me all over again!
Upwal and chasing got it! Thank you. I WAS using a calculator but still couldn't do it! Doh!

OP posts:
HoHum264 · 22/11/2011 18:07

don't quote me on that! The other way i think you can do it is:

£5000 x 0.01 = £50 x 18 = £900

I'm sure there will be someone who can confirm....!!

HoHum264 · 22/11/2011 18:08

oh balls sorry Blush think i may be wrong lol!

lovelydogs · 22/11/2011 18:09

I think the answer is definitely 9, but I'm not sure why waltham used 0.0018? GAH!

OP posts:
upwalthambarnsahoy · 22/11/2011 18:11

Ho Hum, you've just got your decimal place in the wrong spot.

18% = 0.18 so 0.18% which the OP was after = 0.0018.

lovelydogs · 22/11/2011 18:14

Ahhhh yes, that does make sense.

OP posts:
startail · 22/11/2011 18:16

5000/100x0.18= 9

HoHum264 · 22/11/2011 18:31

Ah, thank you upwaltham. See, i knew there would be someone along to correct me!!!

upwalthambarnsahoy · 22/11/2011 18:50

No probs, glad to help!

lovelydogs · 22/11/2011 19:15

OK, so my boyfriend has bought me a Xmas present for 0.18% of his income, which is lovely, really nice. But he expects me to buy him a gift of equal ratio or at least £50, which is 1% of what I take.

AIBU to spend £9 on him? I have a DD, lots of bills, debt, and struggling with having any money left for xmas with my DD.

This is like me asking him to buy a present for me for £550!

I am grateful for the present but really if he wants or needs anything he can just go and get it without worrying about it at all.
AIBU?

YANBU!
Your DP expects you to buy him a pressy of equal ratio or at least £50???

That's shocking. Buy him something from the poundshop, and tell him not to be so bloody rude!

ChasingSquirrels · 22/11/2011 20:09

ahhhhhhhhhhhh, now your question makes sense (and my .1818181 recurring makes me out to be a mathematically anal tosser - but anyway...)

I think he is unreasonable to EXPECT anything, and assuming he knows to some degree your circumstances then that makes him especially unreasonable to expect the amounts he suggests.

On the other hand, do you like him, is he a nice boyfriend, do you want to do something nice for him for christmas?
If the answer to these questions are yes then you do your best to find/make etc something that he will appreciate within your budget - be that a £9 whatnot, a voucher for a massage (from you), or whatever.

Neuromantic · 22/11/2011 20:22

I'd be buying him a one way ticket to Dumpsville, personally.

verytellytubby · 22/11/2011 20:33

What a twat working out the percentage. Weirdo Wink
