To expect nursery staff to not insinuate I sent my DS in knowing he was ill!!

Last week DS aged 3 was sick at nursery, recovering from a bout of cold and was a bit chesty still and he'd coughed which made him sick from swallowing phlem, the staff informed me when I picked him up and I took him home but he was absolutely fine rest of the week and the weekend and so took him in yesterday as normal.
Got a call at lunchtime he'd been sick again and could I come get him, so of course I cam out of work to go pick him up, when I got there he was outside playing and running around, one of the staff said to me she didnt want to catch his bug and that the member of staff watching him last week had S and D all weekend and I ought to get him to a Dr!
All he did all afternoon yesterday was eat, drink and run around like a looney, his usual self and has done the same all day today (kept him off because of what they said!), he did tell me this morning that the nursery wouldnt cut his pasta up so thats why he was sick. (he has always had a strong gag reflex!)
I know that the nursery have to do their jobs and if a child is sick he shouldnt be there and I dont want him there if he is poorly but I have since thought about what the member of staff said and feel a bit put out by it to be honest!

well thb one vom and you're out seems fair enough in the interests of infection control

Do the nursery not know about his strong gag reflex? Surely it can't be the first time he's had pasta there? They were right to send him home obviously if he's been sick and shouldn't go back until he is 48 hours clear (or whatever their policy is) but I'd be inclined to speak to them to try to find out if it was anything else that make him sick.

Yes they know about the gag reflex its on all the paper work I completed when he started and I have told his key worker in each of the rooms he has been in. I dont object to getting him if he has been sick, never have or will as I think its completely fair enough it was just the comments that came accross as though I had deliberately sent him in when he had a bug which he clearly hasnt. Just to add I also always follow protacol and make sure he is off for a couple of days to be sure too as its only fair to other kids and staff.
He tends to be bad if he has had a cold and has a lingering cough, or when he has a cryting fit, he has always been a fussy eater especially with food that has different textures and will always take small mouthfuls. he hasnt had many bouts of it at nursery though so can only asume its down to the lingering cough or crying or the food being too big for him to swallow.

But what if it is a bug? My DC run around even when they have bugs...until they're ready to throw up again and then they lie down for an hour until they're ready to run around again

I would have a word about his gag reflex again though just in case they've forgotten?

Sitting on the fence and can't decide if YABU or not!

I am not sure she was insinuating anything tbh. He has been sick he was sent home. Am sure it has been unpleasant for his key worker to be ill all weekend. Currently suffering a case of conjunctivitis after a parent refused to listen to staff about a contagious illness. Things spread so quickly in nursery so think they are being cautious and rightly so imo

difficulttimes · 22/11/2011 19:40

I dont see where she insinuated you sent him im knowingly.

He was sick last week, the next time he goes in he is sick again - surely you can see why they thought perhaps he had a bug? So many parents do send children in when they aren't really well enough and that is how bugs get spread.
