to just not 'get' the countrys obsession with Pippa Middleton

Who cares that she went ice skating this week, or that she is back with her ex.

What is with this countrys obsession with her?

Unfortunately (as it's my paper of choice) the DM is obsessed with her. She's alright looking but a bit plain really, she did look good at the wedding but in reality you would have to have scrubbed up for THAT wedding wouldn't you!

Conundrumish · 22/11/2011 13:08

Social climbing at its worst. Funny how she dumped her less socially prestigious boyfriend so soon after the wedding - hmm.

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 22/11/2011 13:14

YANBU, I don't get it either. She only looks half attractive because she has plenty of money and so can buy beautiful clothes, and have personal trainers and get her hair done frequently. There are many, much more attractive girls in the media spotlight than her.

It's not her looks that get her the attention - it's her position and how precarious/interesting it is. People are fascinated by what her life must be like now, going from being 'normal' to 'royal', and are just dying for her to slip up or do something to embarrass the royal family. Kate is much more boring to the media, because she has to make such an effort to be perfect and not put a foot wrong. Pippa doesn't have such constraints.

eminencegrise · 22/11/2011 13:25

She's kinda horsey looking. She should find some rich Yank to date, or Justin Timberlake.

Meta4 · 22/11/2011 13:33

Don't get it either. Kate is WAY more appealing.

Plus I thought Pippa's dress at the wedding was a bit dowdy, tbh.

shineynewthings · 22/11/2011 14:02

They're obsessed - well the DM is - because secretly, the English press is VERY disappointed with Kate Middleton who is quite regal and sedate and unexciting and not a sex pinup or beauty goddess and thus has all the qualities which enable her to fit into the royal family very well and which also ensure that she will never (fortunately/unfortunately depending on whos interests we're concerned with) provide any scandal.

So the next best person who even remotely has any change of providing any of the above things as well as sex appeal is Pippa. And they are just dying for her to screw up and provide us all with some real salacious gossip.

Saltire · 22/11/2011 14:12

it's the "royal" thing that annoyes me, when certain newspapers and magazines refer to her as "royalty". She isn't a member of the royal fmaily. She's the sister of one and the sister in law of another. that's where the connection ends.

shineynewthings · 22/11/2011 14:23

True, she's not Royal but she's now a darn sight closer than many minor royals, she is now a young woman with very powerful and important connections people will defer to her for that. Make no mistake about it, her importance or station in life has changed significantly, her behaviour will forever now be seen as a reflection on her BIL and her sister.

Remember Fergie is the pariah of the royal family, but even she traded on her royal connections.

Class and connections still matter hugely at the upper levels in this country - which is sad as it is what prevents true social mobilty in my opinion.

Scarydragontalk its my guilty pleasure.

I am sat at my desk reading star magazine.

no wonder I am not going to hit target this month

I don't think "the country is obsessed with Pippa Middleton" only certain newspapers and people with questionable taste who read them. I haven't heard anything about her since the wedding personally.

thomasbodley · 22/11/2011 15:02

Pippa Middleton sometimes gets her nails in the same place that I go to (and it isn't Richard Ward in Sloane Street, but somewhere much scruffier and less starry). She seems like a very, very sweet girl actually - very good mannered, and almost nervous, as if she is anxious to be liked and for people to think well of her. She seems quite shy and doesn't draw attention to herself.

True, I haven't seen here myself since the Royal Wedding and of course she may have changed, but the manicurists say not.

ShengdanRoad · 22/11/2011 15:15

I think it's because the press are forced to leave Kate alone now she's a royal, to a certain extent, so concentrate on Pippa, who is a civilian.

Scarydragontalk · 22/11/2011 15:25

shoobydoowop fair enough, my guilty pleasure is being on MN and Pinterest and tumblr and facebook and the daily mash while I should be working Grin

fickencharmer · 22/11/2011 15:30

the TAB PRESS think ladies bums sell papers. Nothing really to do with public demand. (Pippa will find it cruel after a time.)

Bucharest · 22/11/2011 15:36

Last time I commented on a Pippa thread I was told off for saying she looked like a slapper at the wedding.

So, I'll say it again. Grin

I think the people who are interested in her are the ones who are interested in people like Shezza Cole, Jordan, Colleen Rooney. You know, other orange people.

TidyDancer · 22/11/2011 15:50

I actually don't think either sister is outstandingly pretty. Kate more so, but Pippa has a rather odd face. Both of them seem too skinny to me as well.

I don't get it either.

The country does not have an obsession with her.

Half a dozen dirty buggers who work for the tabloid newspapers and are old enough to be her father have had a collective wankfest over her and think the rest of the country should follow suit.
