to think that people on mumsnet spend why too much time debating their own reasonableness?

I am a new comer to mumsnet and I feel obliged to admit that I am not actually a mum and therefore it may be that I shouldn't even be here. However after stumbling across the AIBU threads I find myself in two minds about it all. On the one hand I think its quite a beautiful thing, that strangers seem to be very thoughtfully and genuinely trying to give each other advice/support. On the other hand I find myself thinking, oh my god how come these women are questioning the reasonablness of everything, and in a public forum with strangers. What does it say about our society if so many women a) don't have any confidence in their own ability to decide what is reasonable and what isn't, and b) that they don't have actual real life people they can talk things over with. Do you think its about wanting validation from the masses - a little bit like on an online (and classier) jerry springer....spill the beans on the intimate situations in your life and let the audience be the judge? Or do you think there are a lot of really lonely people out there who gjust don't have any other sources for advice?
i really don't mean this to be at all insulting, I have genuienly been moved by some of the posts offering support and advice to people, I just find it all a bit odd.

I just like a good debate. Gets the grey matter going.

southeastastra · 16/11/2011 23:44

maybe hide the aibu threads for a while and take the time to look at the rest of the site, not many people do that now

Kayano · 16/11/2011 23:45

And plus... Sometime a grey haze of OUTRAGE and FURY just overwhelms you and you need to vent and to have people say...

Really? Outrage and fury? Over THAT?!
And then the grey haze suddenly clears and you can at last realise that you are
In fact an unreasonable twunt Grin

Sorry lack of paragraphs makes my brain hurt so for that alone yabu

CalmaLlamaDown · 16/11/2011 23:46

Some of the debates are hilarious, you can see why certain groups take the piss out of mumsnet!

GypsyMoth · 16/11/2011 23:50

What's the problem?

happyhazydaze · 16/11/2011 23:54

I totally agree, some are hilarious and some are quite touching, thats why I keep reading it. I guess what suprises me is the level of intimacy of some posts, like people in the middle of an intimate situation going off halfway through to tap into their computers to talk to strangers for reassurance. I just can't figure out of thats really great, that the tinternet has enabled that, or that its really sad that there is no one in their actual lives that they are ringing at that point.
I totally get re the ranting, I like a good rant at least once a day, but I tend to have people around me to rant to. Is it to do with lots of people (presumably) having young children and so maybe not having as much opportunity for adult to adult rants?
Sorry for lack of paragraphs, will try harder.
I don't know wht IOW means.

Theres no problem I'm just wondering about it all. Its like stumbling across a strange new world that is quite cool and yet a little bit odd.
