To have given this cat flea and worm treatment?

There is a cat that keeps coming into our house. I think its owned by someone as its very friendly and does not come in every day and only eats occassionally. A while ago it had a collar though no name disc but that's disappeared. They're clearly not taking good care of it and its covered in fleas. Today it used the litter tray and I am sure I could see something moving in its poo. I'm afraid I put drops on for both worms and fleas. Apart from anything else I have 2 cats of my own and I don't want them catching things off it especially as one is an 8 week old kitten

Now I'm wondering if someone is going to be furious that a complete stranger has medicated their cat so was IBU?

YANBU, it's about the cat, not the owner.

You did the right thing, but don't make any assumptions about the owner, it could be a elderly person who is struggling to care for it, if their eyesight is failing they may not be aware of fleas etc.

I can see why you did it, but I'd never do that to someone else's cat because if the owner then ends up also treating it, not knowing that you already have, the cat could end up getting an overdose. And that would be very bad.

blimey Naoko that's a point. Just felt so sorry for cat scratching and miserable and should have thought it through better. Oh dear hope I don't end up hurting her

Maybe you could put a collar on it with a note attached asking the owner to get in contact with you?

YANBU to not want your cats to catch fleas or worms off this other cat, but maybe if hes still around put a note on a paper collar telling his owner that you have noticed his problems and being as you have the treatment in your house that you have treated the cat, (without saying who you are as you dont want an irate owner round your house ) it wont harm the cat to treat him and poor mog is probably feeling a lot better now, but if the house he lives in is infested with fleas (which it probably is) sadly he wont stay flea free for long

mind you i would be mortified as an owner if someone felt my cats were bad enough to need treating as i do mine for both on a regular basis
