to get annoyed when people say 'sorry, cross posts'

Anyone reading the thread can look at the times on a post and see that a cross over has happened - why the need for another post just to tell us that. Grrrr

YABU. It doesn't matter

Peachy · 15/11/2011 14:53

It's a way of acknowledging that the other person posted, and is polite. YABU.

YABU.

Its not always obvious from the times on a post.

Sometimes someone might not have refreshed a page before replying so have not read the post(s) immediately before theirs, or they might be a slow typist or get distracted half-way through replying

Catsdontcare · 15/11/2011 14:54

Sorry x post with funny

DuelingFanio · 15/11/2011 14:57

I do it when I am responding to the OP asking for more detail and they have given more detail in the time it took for me to post. It's polite.

ThisIsANickname · 15/11/2011 14:57

Only because it should be "crossed posts" or "cross posted" or even "cross-posted" or "crossposted."

Cross posts doesn't make any sense.

MissPenteuth · 15/11/2011 14:57

Sometimes cross-posting makes it look like you're responding to the poster above you rather than to the OP or to a previous poster.

e.g OP: I like red
poster 1: I prefer blue
poster 2: FFS

Poster 1 is now sad that poster 2 has rubbished their opinion on the colour blue, when in fact the comment was aimed at the OP. A quick, "sorry, cross-posted" clarifies the situation :)

fickencharmer · 15/11/2011 15:01

sorry crossed legs" has a refusal ring to it.

Agree with MissPenteuth, it can be to let other posters know that you are not supremely tactless.

ilovedjasondonovan · 15/11/2011 15:42

Blimey, I knew I shouldn't have posted it in AIBU. I know it doesn't really matter, its just something that personally gets to me.

And, hey, I'm having a snarky, rebellious kind of day.

OP posts:
fuzzynavel · 15/11/2011 15:45

I have those sort of days too ILJD, Im a PMT monster and probably menopausal to boot AngryGrin

proudfoot · 15/11/2011 16:22

YANBU

I do find it annoying when half the posts on a thread are "x post", "sorry cross posted with so and so" "ooh lots of cross posts!"
