Ignoring the blatant sexism, I reckon this is great!

THIS RIGHT HERE

Thinking of buying it for my two cousins, what does everyone reckon? Looks like a fantastic Dolls House! And the furniture goes with it too :)

What sexism? One of the children shown is a boy ffs!

StealthPenguin · 15/11/2011 11:33

I was more on about the "girl plays with dollhouse while boy gets megacool castle with cannons and shizz" that's going on...

I just realized "Sexism" isn't the right word, more "gender stereotyping"!

Still a good deal though...

Most boys would rather play with a castle, most girls would rather play with a dolls house. Nothing to do with gender stereotyping or sexism.. that is just how things are. If the dolls house was blue, the girl would still probably prefer to play with it rather than a castle.

HeresTheThingBooyhoo · 15/11/2011 11:36

duh andrewwww!! Wink

but stealth. i dont get what is so great about it? Confused

HeresTheThingBooyhoo · 15/11/2011 11:37

ah squeaky. bless you wee pet.

Andrewofgg · 15/11/2011 11:37

Sorry - I looked too quickly. Had to take a work break, you know.

OP is right, though, it's not sexism, it's equal-opps gender stereotyping - if that makes sense.

StealthPenguin · 15/11/2011 11:40

Well, there's another thread (I know! Hang me from the rafters!!) where everyone is discussing dolls houses, and plastic tat, and all sorts of things like that. And all of the ones mentioned are £100 or more!!

I just thought that, since this is a brand new dolls house AND it's wooden AND it comes with furniture AND you're saving £90, that people would like to know about it. It seems to tick all the MN boxes!

HeresTheThingBooyhoo · 15/11/2011 11:44

ah right. haven't seen other thread. i thought there was something in the link that i was missing or something.

Miette · 15/11/2011 11:47

My kids have got this at their GP's house. Even cheaper.

Oooh, I like that one! I don't see how people like Disney can get away with it though - the Disney castle is £150 and comes with no furniture or dolls! It's just plastic tat!

dd has something similar and she plays with it loads. Its not 60% off really, they tend to go for £100 on ebay but its still a really good price and they have a decent resale value, around £50.

JingleBellsTootaSmells · 15/11/2011 12:24

Look at the reviews on the ToysRUs one - someone called 'Arthur, Isabelle's Daddy' has reviewed it about 10+ times, on different dates. He can't like it that much Confused

StealthPenguin · 15/11/2011 12:25

Oooh, something stinks!

Hmmmmm...

OP posts:
JingleBellsTootaSmells · 15/11/2011 12:29

So strange. And he changes the ages for of the children, what it was bought for (xmas etc) and sometimes he slags the house off. POIROT! Get the spyglass.....

Towndon · 15/11/2011 12:30

squeaky if that is true that's because those are the toys many of them have been given or encouraged to play with from an early age. So yes there is sexism there.

"Most boys would rather play with a castle, most girls would rather play with a dolls house."

startail · 15/11/2011 12:38

A simple dolls house allows all sorts of possibilities.
The wooden furniture is now used alongside lots of Playmobil, so we have house, hospital, school, vets, shop. Quite often at the same time on different floors.
So I would defiantly avoid themed plastic.

pissedrightoff · 15/11/2011 12:40

I've got the toys r us one, well DD is getting it for Christmas.
Fantastic toy and I like the fact that it's plain wood, means I can paint it in neutral colours.

Also got this www.play.com/Toys/Toys/4-/13705969/Giant-Dolls-House-Playmat/Product.html

themightyfandango · 15/11/2011 12:41

I bought this for my DS.

IME children play with what they enjoy. My eldest 2 DS's are currently all about WWE and football respectively with a joint love of shooting things thrown in.

DS3 has only ever been interested in barbie, disney princess, dressing up and playing at 'house'. Even his older brothers scorn and teasing hasn't changed his mind.

He's very much his own person, I thought starting school this year might dampen his enthusiasm but according to his teacher he is most often found wafting around the classroom in a dress and heels.

TimrousBeastie · 15/11/2011 12:46

looking at the reviews arthur gives on that toys r us house, I don't think he knows how many girls he has got! one review they are 10 and 3, next minute 6, very strangeConfused
