To think this is a bit rude?

DH and I are on fairly friendly speaking terms with a couple locally who had two sons that were at school with my DS.

I wouldn't say we were friends, we looked after their daughter once at very short notice (think a call at 7am on a Sunday) but since then, we haven't really spoken to them as one of their Ds's now goes to a different school and the other was permanantly excluded.

I only mention this because our only contact really was at the school run.

Last night the phone went at half past nine. We answered thinking it could be DH's family who are having a few things going on at the moment.

It was this couple. They asked DH if they could ask a favour. Could we lend them a fiver and drive them to the other side of town.

We declined because we don't get paid for another week, so the car is on the drive without petrol.

The place they asked for a lift to was a residential estate, so it wasn't a medical emergency or anything.

AIBU to think that this is out of order? I would never call anyone after 8pm out of the blue, and I just think this is a big ask from someone who is an aquaintance.

But DH and I are both working overtime at the moment and Sunday night is our only time together, so I may have just over-reacted because I resented the interruption.

I guess it depends on the calibre.

Moodykat · 15/11/2011 00:11

pictish if I papal gift you the money, can you get me some of your cheap weed?!Grin
I definitely think it was drugs related, think I once asked my sister for a lift and £20 for this very purpose. She wasn't daft though and said no!

pictish · 15/11/2011 00:12

Um thanks, but I'd rather not be the Mumsnet dealer... Grin

MrsRhettButler · 15/11/2011 00:12

Pay attention martyr, you could learn something Wink

Moodykat · 15/11/2011 00:22

I thought she didn't want to be the dealer.

MartyrStewart · 15/11/2011 00:23

Is that like the thing where you shake someone's hand and tip them discreetly?

OP posts:
MrsRhettButler · 15/11/2011 00:28

But she has cheap weed kat!

Yes martyr, that's the one but it's harder as you have to pass money and goods at the same time.

Moodykat · 15/11/2011 00:30

I know, but she won't share it with me and I am Envy!

MartyrStewart · 15/11/2011 00:32

You are right, it was worth my 'Sunday special time' being disturbed for this Education Grin

Zombies? Is walking dead on?

MartyrStewart · 15/11/2011 00:45

So it is universally agreed that they wanted me to drive them to a drug den, purchase very cheap weed then drive them home. Grin

Maybe they should sort out a job between the two of them and stop 'choosing' to be at home with the children then. I hate even typing that.

I realise that seems benefit bashing - not meant to be at all. But they are both fully able adults with three kids at school. So I am allowed to be Bitter Wink that I am still skint despite not seeing my DH in a month ('special Sunday time' excluded) because we are trying to pay for christmas. AND THEY BLOODY INTERRUPTED IT !!

I am just pissed off. Scrub the above post. I could vent SO much more about these people but it would qualify as a drip feed, so ignore.

To summarise, IABU and naive Grin

MrsRhettButler · 15/11/2011 00:50

Well if it makes you feel any better, being at home is clearly not working out for them if they need to borrow a fiver for their weed! Grin

MrsRhettButler · 15/11/2011 00:51

Oh no, ywNOTbu! Enjoy your 'sunday special time'

MartyrStewart · 15/11/2011 00:55

You Tinker! Grin

Bedtime, I think.
