The mums on our new school PTA are brilliant, they never hassle anyone and they get lots of support. I am going through a hard time but I feel so inadequate that I am not doing anything this year to help (other years I have made over 100 jars of jam, ran stalls etc). I feel so overwhelmed this year I haven't even done the shoebox appeal whereas other years I've done many. What's happened to me? Feel depressed about it but am too overwhelmed even writing this.

Some years I can offer more help than others, it's no biggy, just do what you are able to and if that is nothing, then so be it.

Hope you have an easier time of things soon :)

Blimey OP, go easy on yourself.
That said, and not wanting to pry, but do you have any physical symptoms too? I only ask because a good friend of mine has zero energy, is v low and has been recently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and anaemia.

posey · 14/11/2011 19:24

Oh you do sound overwhelmed Sad
I don't know too much about what you're going through but please stop feeling guilty about the PTA. You've done lots in the past, at the moment you can't. I know a handful of people over the years at the dc's school who have been through similar, and have just had to take a step back. You need a break from it. If you would feel less guilty just have a word with someone on the committee to tell them you want to help but can't and hope you'll be in a position to get involved again at a later date.

Thank you for your kindness.

Loony, that's amazingly insightful, yes I was diagnosed with both those a year ago but I've had my thyroid medication altered so I thought I would be better by now, so now I believe I don't have any excuse.

I'm trying to launch my own craft business but I'm spending my time with my head in my hands feeling overwhelmed and in despair and having a confidence crisis about not being good enough.

How do others manage so well? What is their secret? I'm trying to be organised, I'm up now (3:45am) having tidied everything away but I think I need to see clutter to be creative!

I'm up now because I've realised that despite having the machine on all weekend, I failed to wash school shirts, so now have them draped over radiators & am turning them every 15mins. We all have our low times. If you aren't up to helping with PTA organisation then just turn up for every event going. Attend the quiz night; go to the Xmas fair; you may end up winning your own jam in the raffle which'd be double bonus. You contributed but still got to eat fruits of your labours. I say that as one who's never made jam so would be happy offer my bounty to the vicar etc. And anyone else.

carriana · 15/11/2011 04:24

Yes, I attend most things going.

carriana maybe it's time to request another blood test. If it's one thing I've learnt about wonky thyroids, is that it takes bloody ages to balance. No harm you taking something like Spatone either (along with some effervescent Vit C - special offer at T*sco at the moment Grin to top up your iron levels. Anaemia and Hypothyroidism go hand in hand, apparently.

Think about this logically - you're not 'known' for shirking (PTA stuff in the past, starting your own business - takes some doing), so you need to perhaps scrutinize yourself more closely, and ask yourself what's going on for you to be so lacking in energy.

If you're anything like my friend, then she feels the mental fuzz as soon as her levels start to unbalance, closely followed by the other symptoms. You're up against sorting out your business if this is the case.

But it's sort-able. Go do it.

carriana · 15/11/2011 14:34

Yes, I get mental fog, can't even get the willpower to walk the dog when before I'd go running every morning with him.

HTH

Then your levels have fallen out of balance. See to it ASAP, but DEFINITELY take Spatone and Vit C as soon as you can. You'll see a difference quite soon, not immediately, but soon. Better than just waiting until you get worse, worse enough to drag yourself back to your GP.
