Never to go to Aldi ever again?

We have started doing our big weekly shop in Aldi. This morning we had a letter from Parking Eye asking us to pay a £70 fine because DH did a big post holiday shop with DD a week last Saturday and was in the car park for 1hour 10 minutes. Aldi have imposed a new time limit for that branch because it is near town of 1 hour. After that you will be asked to pay the penalty.

If you have spent more than £30 you can appeal sending a copy of your receipt but your appeal may not be successful. Even if you have a blue badge you will be given the penalty and will have to appeal.

Dh was so cross he went to Aldi this morning. The manager was sympathetic but said Aldi don't deal with it and we will have to contact Parking Eye.

To make matters worse he did another big shop on Saturday so doubtless we'll get another fine.

WTF?
If my £90 shop is going to cost £160 I might as well go to Waitrose.
The penalty is discriminatory, if you're old or shopping with kids just make sure you keep running round that store. I am so angry. I have better things to do than argue with twunts who think DH should have done the shopping 10 minues faster!

Good on you for challenging it. I can't believe that they get away with things like this. It's not even just those with kids, I have no children, young and somewhat spritely and still spend a good two hours in Sainsbury's every Tuesday night. I could shop faster but I'm not too fussed, I'd be pretty angry if Sainsbos allowed a company to do this! Our local Asda has just scrapped it's P&D as well actually, but then I'm not sure if that's more to do with the huge multi-storey car park right next to it's own P&D car park that offers 4 hours free parking at any time...

Not enforceable - take no notice and they'll sod off. It's not worth their time and expense of taking anyone to court, so they'll try and scare you and then give up.

Theas18 · 14/11/2011 18:49

Pepipoo is apparently your friend in this.

Otoh how can it take over an hour to shop aldi? Admittedly my favourite time to go is after7.30 pm but we shop for 5 and are out well before 8. There isn't enough choice to take an hour surely?

BleurghUna · 14/11/2011 19:35

It's not a fine it's a "speculative invoice". In other words they are trying it on. Just ignore it. Can see why you were worried though.

ohnoherewego · 14/11/2011 21:29

It was Dh shopping not me. He takes longer but then that's his perogative!

OP posts:
Fiendishlie · 14/11/2011 21:43

Please don't respond to Parking Eye! You can safely ignore them as others have posted, the invoice is not enforceable. If you engage them it confirms that you are real, a bit like a spam email, and it will take them longer to drop it. Do vote with your feet though and tell Aldi where to stick it. Shopping with kids or if disabled can take an hour, it is not fair to penalise.

Cantona10 · 30/04/2015 11:22

Sorry to burst your bubble but I really don't see why you need over an hour to do £90 worth of shopping. Most weeks I buy more than that at Aldi in half an hour.
If everyone had your approach then the rest of us would have little chance of finding a space on the car park.
By the way, what on earth is a "twunk"?

ZOMBIE THREAD

Shakirasma · 30/04/2015 11:27

Why resurect a thread from 2011?

gamerchick · 30/04/2015 11:27

I thought that even though this is a mega mega thread that's been dug up.

I would find it hard to spend that long in aldi, they're not that big.

gamerchick · 30/04/2015 11:27

*old

Reginafalangie · 30/04/2015 11:27

Cantona Sorry to burst your bubble but this thread is over 3 years old.

Yeah well back in 2011 prices were cheaper, so I expect the OP got more for her money...

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 30/04/2015 11:42

Maybe he spent a long time looking at all the bargains in the middle aisles.

He'd probably take a lot longer now with it getting much busier.

DoraGora · 30/04/2015 13:44

I've had car park notices before and just ignored them. Mind you, I'd go into the shop and raise merry hell, just to spoil their day, wankers.

Scholes34 · 30/04/2015 14:19

I'd be concerned about what DH had been up to if he's claiming to have been shopping in Aldi for over an hour.

Our's is opposite a Waitrose. I often have a wander over to spend all the money I've saved by shopping in Aldi on fancy things in Waitrose and get a free coffee.

It looks like I'll have to watch out for the parking police next time I do that.

madreloco · 30/04/2015 14:29

They will have brought it in because people were parking there for free and blocking spaces for their customers. This means they take in less money. They are not going to reverse their stance on parking because you don't like it.

Over an hour in Aldi? How can anyone possibly take that long? I walk with a limp and a couple of toddlers to wrangle and it still takes me half that time to do a very large shop.

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 30/04/2015 14:30

I'll say it again....

ZOMBIE THREAD

DoraGora · 30/04/2015 14:39

I've had a ticket, albeit not in aldi, B&Q, I think, for being in a virtually empty half of the carpark. I went there on purpose. Last time I checked, the maximum compensation that a company could charge was the loss of revenue from ones overstaying, which, in a free carpark, is 0.
