To ask kitchen company for money off for leaving me without a kitchen

Bit of background - having building work done prior to installing kitchen. Kitchen co was due to start installing on 7 Nov but delayed until today. Builder completed to due date and so we've been without kitchen since he finished.

Kitchen co is now saying they can't start today. May be able to start next week but may need to delay until Jan Angry. We have not had a kitchen since the building work started 3 weeks ago. We have paid kitchen co. a deposit.

I'm thinking of calling kitchen co and asking for a reduction on bill of £100 per day, every day they delay installation. Any better ideas?

They've basically accepted too much work before xmas and now don't have enough fitters. Our builder is too busy to install the kitchen

YABU. You can't insist on a punitive clause in the contract retrospectively.

What you can do is say they've broken the contract (assuming they have - what terms and conditions did you agree to?) and your like your deposit back and go elsewhere.

But if I do that then by the time I find another kitchen co to work out the design, budget etc etc and book all that in, I'd be lucky to get a kitchen this side of Jan/Feb anyway

I have no kitchen. It's not as if they're booked in to take mine out and install another one. I literally have nothing.

Well, you might not be able to insist, but you sure as hell can ask very firmly, yet politely. I would certainly be on the phone suggesting they owe me something for the substantial inconvenience that is entirely their fault.

What's the terms of the contact you signed?
