Salted caramel and apple ice cream :o

It's like putting salt in porridge, perfect.

Selks · 14/11/2011 21:26

Salted camel does not sound nice....

exexpat · 14/11/2011 21:46

I always think of salted caramel as a Breton thing - my favourite dessert ever is a Breton pancake with salted caramel sauce and vanilla icecream... I am still eking out a bottle of salted caramel sauce I brought back from Brittany this summer.

You can get some stuff online - eg salted butter caramels but I haven't seen any in the shops here.

TheSkiingGardener · 14/11/2011 21:49

Would you rather have unsalted camel?

Salted caramel chocolates are amazing though.

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/11/2011 21:51

On a similar note - lindt dark chocolate with sea salt is incredibly delicious too and practically healthy.

brighthair · 14/11/2011 21:53

Never heard of this salted caramel of which you speak but I might have to give the Co-op cheesecake thing a go. I love cheescake.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/11/2011 22:30

I like those cheapo creme caramel thingies, sprinkled with sea salt. The dds think I am insane.

Lindt sea salt chocolate is amazing.

Being jumped by Captain Wentworth may just be better than chocolate though.

eurochick · 14/11/2011 22:30

Mmmmm, salted caramels. Mmmmmm.

CointreauVersial · 14/11/2011 22:33

Lindt Sea Salt dark chocolate is just lush, and I've just discovered a milk chocolate version too.

Salted caramel, salted liquorice....all good.

Dumpyandabdabs · 14/11/2011 22:39

Ooh try the Marks and sparks chocolate bar with salted caramel in it, its amazing!!!

HardCheese · 14/11/2011 22:43

Berthillon in Paris do a gorgeous caramel beurre salée ice cream, which I combine with a scoop of pear sorbet on a cone - it's the slightly salty sweetness and then the fresh, slightly tart pear...

  • departs for Eurostar -

Or l'Artisan du Chocolat in London (Sloane St, Selfridges Food Hall and madly expensive, but also sell cheapie misshapes at Borough Market, which are just as delicious if wonky-looking) do divine salted caramels with liquid centres...

AmberLeaf · 14/11/2011 22:43

Co-op do a divine salted caramel cheesecake slice

Oh yes! I had 2 slices of it earlier, was reduced in co op.

Very nice.

MmeLindor. · 14/11/2011 22:49

It is scrumptious stuff.

there is an ice cream shop near us that sells Caramel Fleur de Sel ice cream. It is to DIE for.

I tried making salted caramels but they were not 100% successful. Must get a confectionery thermometer and try again.

The left over caramels were used as caramel chips in banana muffins.

MmeLindor. · 14/11/2011 22:53

Salted Caramel Ice Cream recipe - not tried it but have heard it is fabulous.

and

Banana Ice Cream with Salted Caramel Sauce

I made a dessert recently with apples, salted caramel and pancake batter.

piprabbit · 14/11/2011 22:53

You can buy L'Artisan du Chocolat salted caramels on-line here.
They are lovely - I treated myself to a pack to celebrate the birth of DD Grin.

Selks · 14/11/2011 23:10

Like the sound of that salted caramel sauce recipe, thanks. Bet that would be nice over a baked pear or apple
