DD2 has weak ankle muscles due to hypomobility. She has boots that are supportive but certainly not waterproof. She wants to wear wellies, like the other kids at nursery BUT physio has said she really shouldnt. :(

I have looked at snow boots and they look fairly good, but I need to know how supportive they are. That extra half circle they put at the back of ankle needs to be strong and un moveable (like kickers).
Anyone got a pair like this? I dont fancy dragging dd's to the shops and fiddling with every set of snow boots Grin

I bought snowboots after an ebay search and the headline 'mucker boots' brought up a style with good strong waterproofing at the shoe area. Take a look?

lisad123 · 11/11/2011 23:02

its not so much the waterproffing that needs to be strong, but the ankle support needs to be pretty solid. Will look though :) ta

My son hhad some great ones from Decathlon, really strong up to the ankles and soft above that- i know there arenot many stores around, but they have a good website

lisad123 · 11/11/2011 23:15

thanks will google them too. I hate shoe shoppping. Neither of my girls are allowed to wear pilmsoles either, its even harder to get supportive slippers Hmm

I meant that they are strong around back of heel but also keep you dry like wellies.

TruthSweet · 11/11/2011 23:17

DD2 has HMS with wobbly ankles and she wears Kickers (cute white boots with pink & purple Lego flowers). Apparently Kickers do do snow boots but whether they have the same support as their lace up boots....

DD2's being fitted with insole things soon but when her ankles were very wobbly splints were mentioned.

Would they work for your DD in an ordinary snow boot or perhaps very supportive tubi-grip and a thick pair of socks to cushion? (DD2 had some for her ballet shoes)

We have some snowboots I got 2nd hand but the support is rubbish so I think I will just shove her in the pushchair unless she absolutely wants to walk but her ankles are getting stronger so it might not be such an issue for her.

I hope you can find some good ones soon.

lisad123 · 11/11/2011 23:20

dd1 wears kickers, we love the designs ect, and cheaper than buying another pair of piedros. DD1 has inserts too Grin

Will look at kickers snow boots. The trouble is she wants to be like others and her nursery play out in all weathers, and normal kickers just offer no waterproof at all :(

I just bought my daughter some fairly supportive goretex lined boots from clarks. She throws her left foot in so needs a bit more support. They were a bit more expensive than normal for clarks but they seem fairly robust and warm with a fur lining.

Fo0ffyShmooffer · 11/11/2011 23:22

We also have to be careful with DDs shoes due to hypermobility. We got some from Clarks last year that were great very supportive. I think they were £26. Alot compared to Wellies I know. We chanced Wellies this year and she is breaking her bloody neck in them so i'll also be buying snowboots tomorrow.

Fo0ffyShmooffer · 11/11/2011 23:24

We also have her in the little kickers boots. Best support I've found.

scarlettsmummy2 · 11/11/2011 23:34

Startrite tend to be good too, not sure if they do snowboots but may be worth checking out. I have found the independant shoe shops to have a good selection.

scarlettsmummy2 · 11/11/2011 23:38

just found these www.startriteshoes.com/girls/boots/snow-petal

lisad123 · 11/11/2011 23:40

We got dd's snow boots from sports direct. They have quite a selection online, some of them look sturdy. Dd's very flat-footed and we found the Campri Juniors suit her feet really well. HTH.

lisad123 · 11/11/2011 23:41

im not sure if the rubber of those would be supportive enough scarlettsmummy. thanks though, any help would be wonderful

Dd has snowboots, just cheap £12 I think from asda peppa pig ones, the ankle back is un squashable, its solid! I have to use two hands before it would begin to crease, these are last years design though.
Blooming brilliant though and go right up her leg with three straps to fasten, might be worth popping in asda and checking them out x

PatriciaHolm · 11/11/2011 23:45

Caterpillar boots are pretty supportive and sturdy, and waterproof?

JjandtheBeanplusPud · 11/11/2011 23:46

Just dug out ds asda ones and there even tougher as they're a larger size, deffinatly try asda, just asked my mum and this years designs are peppa, hello kitty and flowers, the peppa pigs are lace ups, others velco straps

lovingthecoast · 11/11/2011 23:46

We had these pink ones last year and they seemed very supportive plus waterproof and lined all the way down but they were pricey.

here

starlingsintheslipstream · 11/11/2011 23:47

I have just bought 3 different pairs of snowboots from Muddy Puddles. They're great but definitely a "no" for you as very squashable at the heels, if that's any help.

lisad123 · 11/11/2011 23:51

thanks will make a run for asda tomorrow :)
still searching internet for others.
starlings, thanks for information :)

Ive just given them away too as DD2's feet too big this year but at least she will fit in an old pair of DD1's. If I hadn't given them to the charity shop I could have posted them to you if they fitted as they were still in really good nic. Definitely solid at the heel though and held feet in place well. They are designed to wear when not skiing at skiing if that makes sense so need to hold and grip well.

lisad123 · 11/11/2011 23:55

loving, thanks but alittle passed my price range Blush
shame, but shes a 9 anyways, highly unlikely they would be the same size :)

OP posts:
RosalindFranklinsNobelPrize · 11/11/2011 23:59

The goretex boots from Clarks are good

lovingthecoast · 12/11/2011 00:17

Oh I think they were a 7-8 as they crossed 2 sizes. She's 4yrs old and her school shoes this year for nursery are a 9 which probably means she has big feet! Blush But at least I have snowboats in sizes 9 and 10 which belonged to her sister so at least one of them will fit her this winter.

Hope you find something suitable. I seem to remember a couple of years ago DS1 has some boys ones from next which were reasonably priced and very supportive and warm. Their girls boots tend to be a bit fashion like but the boys ones seem more practical and may not look too boyish this year. Worth a look.
