I seriously hate socks .

I believe they should be sold as 3's not pairs (one always goes awol)

Or all socks should be just one colour i.e black so there is always a pair

Socks are stupid

I once bought myself black socks, DH stole them. Now all my socks have coloured toes/heels or pattern on the soles. They still go astray.

Every now and again i go through all our socks and throw out any that don't have a mate. Doesn't happen often though because it needs to be when i'm up-to-date with laundry! Blush

mrsravelstein · 11/11/2011 19:25

dh has a lot of identical black socks

ds1 has a lot of identical dark grey socks to identify them from dh's

ds2 has a lot of identical black socks with a slight stripe to identify them from ds1's

dd gets to have pink socks, peppapig socks, fairy socks, sparkly socks, spotty socks etc, because she absolutely will not wear a matching pair, and spends a great deal of time each day choosing which 2 socks to wear, so it doesn't matter if they get lost

We had our washing machine repaired recently.

The guy showed me the back of the drum and all the random shite which had collected there. He told me that the mass of random shite was mostly socks that had made it through and been hacked apart by the innards of the machine.

Ahhhhh. My head nodded a lot.

MittzyTheValiantVole · 11/11/2011 19:26

YANBU, I think socks should only be worn once and then discarded, as they never retain their new tightness.

I do like a nice, tightly sheathed foot. Baggy foot wear can render me deeply anti social.

bagelmonkey · 11/11/2011 19:28

united oddsocks

KatieScarlett2833 · 11/11/2011 19:30

I have two odd sock baskets

No bugger will sort them, so they keep on growing

marriedinwhite · 11/11/2011 19:31

Rhondajean - I am strict, very strict - DH would like his socks ironed if he thought he could get away with it. He also has suggested that DS's rugby shirts should be ironed to make sure the collars are pressed and neat. And he likes real cotton hankies - ironed and folded into squares - he likes the lined pattern the pressed folds make Grin. Fancy swapping for a week.

rhondajean · 11/11/2011 19:34

Married I realised that could have sounded rude - I meant taking orders as in for a takeaway/meal out not you being ordered around!!

DH likes real cotton hankies too, every time he sits one down somewhere I whip it into bin, I cannot abide the horrible germ ridden things!!! Eugh.

I suggest passing your DH the iron and asking him to show you how its done Grin

Over the past couple of years I have bought nothing but Primark black socks in the largest kid's size (4-7) for myself. You might think that would be the end of the problem. Oh no. I now have 27 black socks, all slightly different. They change colour and shape after washing, and I think the 28th is in the corner of the summer duvet cover!

KatieScarlett2833 · 11/11/2011 19:39

Irons socks?

There are no words....

....... actually there are

Socks are so meaningless that improving their appearance with ironing is the biggest waste of time since, since

MittzyTheValiantVole · 11/11/2011 19:40

I always have to fold the socks with that tucking in themselves thing, so that NO toe bit is showing.

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 11/11/2011 19:47

Did someone say they ironed socks?

BalloonTwister · 11/11/2011 19:52

Surely two socks make a pair? Colour is of no importance once they're inside your shoe! :)

IHeartKingThistle · 11/11/2011 19:54

Oh my. At the risk of making all your teeth itch, I will admit to almost always wearing odd socks. Life's too short isn't it? People always, always comment on it though if they come round or if I take my shoes off at their house, like it's seriously a strange thing to do. I'm wearing socks on both my feet. What's the biggie?

DS is 2 and can't say much, but he can say 'don't match' Grin I am quite proud of myself if both his socks are from the same pack Blush.

rhondajean · 11/11/2011 19:56

Do some people have a duvet cover for the summer?
I use the same three duvet covers all year but I have different summer and winter duvets.

MN is a mine of information..

NinkyNonker · 11/11/2011 19:57

DH just has all the same socks bar the odd pair, if he loses one it doesn't matter!

KatieScarlett2833 · 11/11/2011 19:59

All my duvet covers are white

For similar reasons to the all black sock scenario

marriedinwhite · 11/11/2011 20:46

Agree with Katie Scarlett

CardyMow · 11/11/2011 21:37

My odd socks appear to be multiplying in the odd-sock box - it is time to sort through them again this wekend, and do a full house search for the matching ones. I will be digging down the side of the ds's bunk beds, and hunting out all their hiding places. I do this once a month...I'm sooooo sad.

But even buying all black socks doesn't work - DD has to have plain black for school and every sock is a different shade of black after a few washes. Grrrrr. I seem to spend half my LIFE worrying about socks...

KatieScarlett2833 · 11/11/2011 21:41

Stop worrying and let the lazy fuckers sort out their own socks.

Or not.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/11/2011 21:44

I haven't lost a sock since I bought 5 posh cashmere Brora pairs.

I watch them like a hawk and they go in an internal washing net that I bought specially.

I love my socks.

ahedgehogis · 11/11/2011 21:46

The solution is to knit your own socks. I love my hand made socks and they are very warm!

Applemartini · 11/11/2011 21:50

Am ecstatic to discover I am not alone in sock purgatory. I too have a sock basket, and the latest audit identified around 60 odd ones in it. That's not including the other poor odd souls I've stuffed into the airing cupboard, and into random drawers.

LadyBeagleEyes · 11/11/2011 21:51

I hate socks with a passion.
I accept I have to wear them in the winter as my feet get cold, but as I only wear boots it doesn't matter if they're odd or not.
Socks are evil as are hankies.
And that is a fact.
