Oh, this is wrong, but I think I am going to tell a lie to a good friend tonight

She's meant to be coming over after the kids are in bed. But I am totally fucked. Ds2 is not sleeping well this week and I am knackered. She is of the CIO school of parenting and will roll her eyes at me tending to him. (She is kidless, btw, but most of my kidless friends are very huggy-wuggy-sappy childcare like me!)

I feel bad, but I think I may have to feign an ailment.

If she is a good friend why not tell her the truth

TheOriginalFAB · 11/11/2011 13:10

Text her now and say you will have to postpone tonight as you are knackered and need an early night.

TingleJuice · 11/11/2011 13:11

Just tell her the truth and if she is any kind of "good friend" she will completely understand.

It is very easy for childless people to have ideas about parenting. I am the complete antithesis to what I planned to be like as a parent and not for the better!

Have an early night and tomorrow is a new day. Smile

Tell you are off to bed at 8pm as sleep deprived, say sorry and give possible other dates to meet up.

I never understand the CIO lot who say you should just turn over and go to sleep if your baby is crying. Never mind if you agree with it as a method of sleep training or not, who the fuck can go to sleep with a baby screaming in the next room? I've never tried CIO because there was no way I was going to listen to a baby screaming while I failed to get back to sleep.

I would tell her the truth, say you're knackered. If she asks why tell her why and then if you get any eye rolling punch her lights out :o

ballstoit · 11/11/2011 13:24

Just tell the truth...personally I'd prefer a text message so that I have time to think before I insensitively criticise reply.

Thanks for the replies, and sorry for not posting till now - bloody router playing up! Grr.

Well, in the end, I just told the truth and it was fine. We met this afternoon instead and it was lovely. Grin

Thanks for not flaming me. Smile

Aw- there is nothing better than a friend to whom you can say 'I'm totally tatered' and they understand.

Unforch, i am surrounded by women with children who seem to survive on 3 hours sleep and get up at 4 to make cup cakes. One of my colleagues washes her kitchen floor TWICE A DAY.

nethunsreject · 12/11/2011 20:28

Yeah, I guess I underestimated her, tbh.

Real friends are fine with the truth! Smile
