My iphone earphones have stopped working after just 1 year. One measly year, people - who among you still has a functioning vintage pair of Walkman earphones from the 1980s? Exactly.

Anyway, so I go to the Apple website to see how much it will cost me to replace this piece of crap with another equally crap piece of crap. Ready?

Steady?

£26.

Shock Hmm

Thank God for ebay, I say. £1.69 and a year's warranty.

Apple headphones are pants. Tinny and annoying to everyone else around you because they leak so much sound.

Shure are brilliant. Mine were one of their cheapest and were about £50. So not cheap but the sound us great, they are comfy and if they break within two years, just send them back and you'll get a new pair sent to you right away.

Or get skullcandy from Tkmax for £8

I'm currently liking over ear ones right now...for them, the Wesc ones are ace!

As are coloud ones

Although the coloud ones either have hello kitty/marvel comic print on or are neon!!

I'm 23 years old and wearing hello kitty headphones because they where half the price of the others :o

SamWidgiz · 11/11/2011 09:10

Ear buds are better for sound, I find.

Have never regretted choosing Samsung Galaxy over iRipoff Grin

StealthPenguin · 11/11/2011 09:12

My iPhone headphones have never lasted me more than a month. Bastards.

grumpykat · 11/11/2011 09:12

Ahem. Yesterday I went to apple to but the THIRD charger for my laptop in the last five years. How much? It's a charger, not a fricking ipod remember.

£50! For a charger! BAH.

Trills · 11/11/2011 09:17

YABU to think they are taking the piss.

Apple are known for their customer service actually. If you walked into a store and said "I haven't had these that long and they are dead" they might just give yo a new pair.

YABU to be using the apple earphones anyway, they are shit. You need some nice soft comfy ones like this that block out outside sound (so you don't have to turn them up loud, damage your hearing, and piss off everyone around you).

BikeRunSki · 11/11/2011 09:17

Apple headphones are pants. I replaced my broken (about 18 months life) with some £5 from TK Maxx, which fit better, sound better and are still going strong more than a year later.

A1980 · 11/11/2011 10:08

who among you still has a functioning vintage pair of Walkman earphones from the 1980s?

Not me. Every walkman I had broke within a year. So many moving parts to go wrong. They don't like being dropped. My iPod shuffle on the other hand had been dropped multiple times and is still going strong after 4 years.

Headphones of any brand just break very easily. There's nothnig you can do.

picnicbasketcase · 11/11/2011 10:13

I've had my iPhone for just over a year and I think I've gone through about eights pairs of earphones. After the originals broke I looked for another pair at Argos and they were £22, so I started buying eBay cheapies. I'm not as fussed when they break quickly then.

YANBU - it's very irritating that they charge this much when they must know they only last five minutes.

coastgirl · 11/11/2011 10:21

We've got at least 4 pairs of Apple earphones in our house because they get ditched immediately for better ones. Maybe I should put them on eBay for £21 and make a fortune. I'll be rich, rich I tells ya!

picnicbasketcase · 11/11/2011 10:24

You should, coastgirl - even if you start an auction at 99p people will bid them up more anyway. Not as high as £21 but they would sell. There's so many fakes on there that genuine ones are in demand.

pugsandseals · 11/11/2011 10:35

YANBU - I hate anything apple!

The sound from other makes of mp3 are far, far better!

Why do they have to make it so incompatable with any other brand of speakers/computer etc.???

I avoid anything apple at all costs as I think they are overpriced and anti-competitive with the rest of the market!!!!

Grumble over!

Snorbs · 11/11/2011 11:59

I

catsrus · 11/11/2011 12:39

blimey - I switched to Apple from windoze eleven years ago and I've never had an Apple product break down - stopped buying the warranties because never needed one! only ever had to upgrade due to needing software that wouldn't run on older models! We've still got one of the swan necked iMacs going strong and I've passed on iPods and iTouches bought for the dcs years ago - I'm still using the same set of earphones that came with my iPhone 3gs ( which is still going strong so no way can I justify upgrading it to the lovely 4s that my friend has replaced her old Blackberry with Envy )

The dcs do manage to lose / break / let the dog/cat play with their earphones though..... I have to hide mine so they don't get 'borrowed'.

Maybe Apple products just like me because I have vowed to never buy another windoze product Wink

catsrus · 11/11/2011 12:46

the ipods are not incompatible with other headsets pugs - it's just a standard 3.5mm audio jack Confused- I've plugged mine into other speakers - and even big sound systems without any problem.

lassylass · 11/11/2011 13:08

Write a letter to Steve Jobs.

pugsandseals · 11/11/2011 14:26

catsrus - sorry, I meant the other way around. Finding it really hard to find good speakers for my mp3 which isn't apple because it doesn't have the magic ipod connector. For me I am much happier to use media player than itunes etc. and my mp3 connects nicely to my dell.

pugsandseals · 11/11/2011 14:28

I still believe the sound quality from phillips or sony is far superior to ipod though, whether you are talking about the mp3 or the headphones!

maighdlin · 11/11/2011 14:29

YABU you brought this upon yourself by choosing to buy apple products.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 11/11/2011 17:30

This 'incompatibility' makes me laugh. 10 years as an iPod user, I have never ever come across any issues. It has a standard 3.5mm jack as catsrus said.

But then it's the anti Apple brigade that still trot out the old incompatibility argument against Macs, despite the fact that they've been 'compatible' since 1997.

Dirtydishesmakemesad · 11/11/2011 17:34

I use 99p shop earphones with my ipod and it sounds the same to me.The last pair lasted about a year but they only died because my 1 year old chewed them.

nocake · 11/11/2011 17:58

Who on earth uses iPod earphones? Mine are still on the plastic bag, shoved in a box of random junk somewhere on the cellar. Instead I use a pair of SoundMagic earphones that are so much better.
