to murder a neon tetra

One of my neon tetras has a really bad case of fishrot. The poor thing can hardly swim. My son wants to treat it again for fishrot. I think the kindest thing would be to fish it out and hit it on the head with a hammer.

Can a neon tetra be treated with such advanced fish rot?

(Of course, if you meant a thread on how to euthanize your own dog...I don't think there is a DIY method so it would still end up as 'go to vet Sad')

The neon tetra died of natural causes before I could get the clove oil to bump him. My son doesn't seem that bothered by the poor tetra's demise. He wants fish and chips!

Rest in peace poor little tetra, now that you are swimming in the great ocean in the sky.

Seriously thanks for advice.

I come on concerned about your fish, (even though I don't like them Hmm) and ending up pmsl at the responses.:o RIP Neon Tetra

You'll know what to do next time...from what I remember of neon tetra there will be a next time.

Owning fish is (seriously) just about the best way of familiarising children with the 'cycle of life'.

Popbiscuit · 10/11/2011 18:56

Sorry for you loss...goodbye little neon tetra.

Poor little fishy. I've seen how devastating fish rot can be. I do find the idea of euthanising fish rather disturbing though.

EauRouge · 10/11/2011 19:04

Fish rot? Do you mean finrot? Usually treated pretty easily unless there is an underlying problem (bacterial infection or water quality problem).

If you want me to write some long, geeky posts about how you can fix it then start a thread in Fishnet. There's too much daylight in AIBU, I'm not used to it

duckdodgers · 10/11/2011 19:13

Maybe Im missing something but surely they just die anyway if you take them out of the water?

Pmsl @ this thread! Bruxeur, you slay me! Grin
I've always gone with the lettin it's tank mates finish it off option! It usually works a treat! Shock @ hitting a tiny tetra with a hammer! It would definitely be dead!

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 10/11/2011 20:44

May I suggest that you never buy a Siamese Fighting fish! I've never bet a breed more reliable for getting sick and dying than them! Confused

In the 1970s my uncle bought an angel fish instead of the goldfish he had gone out to get. The man in the let shop said to keep it in warm water. My granda set his alarm for every two hours and topped up the bowl from the kettle, but it was dead by the morning. Still not sure if it was boiled or frozen....
